"It says right here in the constitution that we shall guarantee 'A Republican . . . Government.' As a textualist, my hands are unfortunately tied."
In fact, I’m preparing myself for SCOTUS to contort itself into whatever shape allows them to keep the TX map while striking down the CA map.

It's genuinely shocking to me that Congress has willingly decided that the President should be able to ignore validly enacted laws for short term policy wants they agree with.

The current admin is such a strong example of how, without any clear enforcement mechanisms, laws don't do anything on their own.

The consulting firm, the Ohio-based Strategy Group, has longstanding personal and business ties to Noem and her senior aides at DHS.

It played a central role in Noem’s 2022 reelection campaign.

And the company’s CEO is married to Noem’s chief spokesperson at DHS.

They know what they’re doing is wrong.
DHS confirmed it has stopped automatically storing officials' text messages.

Instead, officials are supposed to take a screenshot, send that to their work email, download it onto their work computer and run a text-recognition program on it. Every time.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but this is incredibly poor taste for a group who has membership from five supreme court justices.

As someone who both appreciates and is exhausted by Takoma Park, and who knows that GMOs are good actually, I couldn’t agree with this piece more. ggwash.org/view/101317/...
A quirky Takoma Park needs quirky zoning
Quirk thrives in the cracks–in the messy mix of uses, people, and incomes that make a place feel alive. The irony is that to preserve Takoma Park’s quirky character, we may have to break from the zoni...

Instead of asking the Speaker of the House if he has a view on <critical separation-of-powers QOTD>, maybe reporters should start asking him if he reads any newspapers or otherwise informs himself on those matters to which we might think the Speaker of the House ought to be paying attention?
RAJU: Last week you were very critical of Biden's use of the autopen. But Trump admitted on 60 Minutes to not knowing he pardoned a crypto billionaire who pleaded guilty to money laundering. Does that also concern you?

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know anything about that. I didn't see it. I'm not sure.

The FBI director is flying his girlfriend around on private government planes while FBI agents go without paychecks and families prepare to go hungry as SNAP benefits are being suspended
Patel's girlfriend performed at Penn State last weekend. A government jet arrived at State College Regional Airport, according to its FAA registration, with an address listing the FBI HQ. The plane then flew to Nashville, where his girlfriend lives.

All on the taxpayer’s dime.

Vance's casual, but extreme, racism still manages to surprise me.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

New paper from me offering a holistic assessment of #SCOTUS's behavior on Trump-related emergency applications thus far:

TL;DR: The ultimate theme of the decisions is a majority bent on preserving *their* supremacy, as such—which is likely to only be self-defeating.

once again, i think electoral college maps shape people's sense of political reality in incredibly destructive ways
It gets crazier. Source in Maryland Gov Wes Moore's admin tells me they informed Trump officials that the ailing counties were in Appalachia, and the Trump people were surprised to hear this!

(Supports @jamellebouie.net's point about MAGA's Balkanized vision of US)

Just for the record, in 2020:
- Wray was the FBI director Trump handpicked to replace Comey
- Jack Smith was in the Hague prosecuting Kosovo war crimes
- Garland was an appeals court judge
- Monaco was in private practice in LA

There was no Biden administration yet, crooked or otherwise.

He crazy.
