Our culture has such a reliance on art, mixed with so much disdain for artists' lives. Someone throws soup at a painting in a gallery or whatever and everyone acts like it's a literal murder, but that level of sympathy is for the object, almost never for the living conditions of artists.

absolutely torn apart by how many people i see praise and love this AI book, we're reading slop and we don't know it. So many people genuinely invested in supporting an author and a work, and its not a human one, its pretending to be what it isn't
last year i hyped up this book/cover bc its beautiful + the premisce sounded great. Then the book got pulled to be re-published (it was originially self-published), and now its back, with a new cover.
Turns out the og cover was stolen + the book is at least AI-edited. Stay away from it

i think what gets overlooked is that part of the humor and charm of edits like these is that you're perfectly aware that someone sat down and spent their own time making it. they chose to do something cool or silly or stupid or genius, regardless of the results

For further context twitter added a button that allows users to generate ai images using existing art posts from artists. It removes glaze and it basically reskins the artwork by using the existing work as a base. Twitter is no longer a safe space for art

My favorite historical costume designer is Sandy Powell, and she has an amazing trick that it took me years to realize: Be conservative with color and lean into modern shapes with your hero, and put your villain in the most outrageously period-specific costume you can.
