The phrase "sucked in" is true, but not in the way he uses it. He means the campaign was all about identity. It was not. "Sucked in" means Democrats are terrible at rising to bait and letting their opponents frame the debate, therefore creating an impression of a campaign they didn't actually run.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.

I signed up to be a precinct election official this year just so I could see how it all works and even here in Ohio they do a good job of pairing officials by opposite party and cross checking everything at each step
