At 7 studios over the years, only one wasn't beset by dysfunctional leadership. Another was only functional for one of their several projects.
It doesn't start making sense when you become a lead or director, you just get paid more to shout into the void trying to change it.

apropos of the latest discourse, I'll just repost this from earlier
in ~17 years, the writers and narrative designers have consistently been the kindest, smartest folks I've worked with in game dev.
they take some of the stupidest interference from leadership while delivering, time after time.
diminishing their contributions is a short road to worse games.
