Know things aren't great right now, but after dealing with a family event, I'm officially looking for freelance work again. Made a new portfolio selection, focusing on what I think I do best - interviews.

Please reach out if you want to talk or are open to pitches. www.clippings.me/users/hayesm...
Starting the year off with a bang (by missing an embargo). Anyway, as a Code Vein supporter, I dug a lot about Code Vein 2 - and think completely splitting for a new world and story, Final Fantasy style, is the right move. www.inverse.com/gaming/code-...
The Anime-Inspired 'Code Vein 2' Might Do Just Enough To Sidestep Soulslike Fatigue
'Code Vein 2' has been a long time coming, but the vampiric anime Soulslike might be different enough to make its mark.

Valnet decided to shut down XDA's Gaming segment, so I'm starting 2026 looking for work. I'm open to any jobs or freelance opportunities in journalism, PR, or consulting. DM me if you'd like my email. Also, consider giving @jakejameslugo.bsky.social work, as he was let go today as well.

Now that the break is over, it's time to get back to work.

Anyone looking for a producer, creative director or lead, writer/editor — freelance or staff — please reach out! I appreciate any leads, too.

Stay sane and safe in 2026, everyone.
In this next phase, I'm available to freelance in many roles: producing, creative directing and development, and writing/editing across entertainment, gaming, culture, and branded content of all kinds.

Please hit me up if you'd like to work together! (ccruz0918@gmail.com)

Put a lot of myself into my work last year, and while the returns don't always feel worth it, I'm going to keep that going. Subscribe to my RPG newsletter (new issue this week), follow @inverse.com, and follow @burnoutculture.bsky.social. Got a lot of things planned!

I've seen no less than seven posts today of people saying they're looking for work, and I wish I had something to send everyone's way. If I have one wish for this year, it's that we can all find good and steady work - because man this shit sucks.

Hello everyone. Unfortunately, I was told that I would not be resuming my daily news writer role at Insider Gaming.

So, needless to say, I am open for game journalism work. If you’re looking for a reviewer, previewer, news and/or guide writer, as well as mock reviews, please reach out. Thank you.

Did something for a future newsletter this weekend that I'm VERY excited to share. A little different, but I think people will dig it.

Going back to work today feels like the first day of my Senior year of high school - bad.

Absolutely incredible final game to end my absolute favorite season of football in literally a decade. What a wild ride. Can’t believe we’re getting another Aaron Rodgers playoff game. These playoffs are going to be nuts
January 5, 2026 at 4:54 AM
In other Denver sporting news, the Avalanche have the fewest losses in 40 games in NHL history. That team is on an absolutely unbelievable run. Like legendary stuff
January 5, 2026 at 1:22 AM
Another ugly game, but hey that’s been the whole season and we were hedging for the playoffs. But boy it feels good to say the 1 seed Broncos
January 5, 2026 at 12:40 AM
Piss Missile is such an all-timer football phrase
Fine, here's Tom Brady using the phrase "piss missile" again
January 5, 2026 at 12:22 AM
Everything sucks, but at least Screech is ready for the Broncos playoff run now
January 4, 2026 at 12:43 AM
The refs in this Carolina-Tampa game might be some of the worst I’ve seen this entire season. What the fuck.
January 3, 2026 at 11:26 PM
Anytime you see this you know it’s gonna be a good football game
gonna be honest I don't think the skycam is really helping us today

Somehow missed this, but my Remade series got featured in Critical Distance at the end of December. And that makes me tremendously happy. www.critical-distance.com/2025/12/21/d...

Chuck Schumer fucking sucks. Put him in the dictionary next to spineless
Asked about the possibility of impeachment, Schumer says "we hope that we can have support from our Republican colleagues to put a brake on this long before it gets that far"

if you are talking today about how bad maduro was and were alive, at all, during the run-up to the iraq war you are potentially the dumbest person to ever live

Talked to my entirely offline mom on the phone last night who said CBS News has become so bad she can’t even watch it anymore - and it was fascinating to see someone who has no idea what’s happening there say that.

Alright, gonna do my best to log off and not post through it - because I can barely process the real gravity of what’s happened in the last 12 hours. And this isn’t the best way to be productive. Call, email, your congresspeople - at the very least. And, my god, look out for each other

You should be embarrassed to be a member of congress and issuing anything other than impeachment resolutions. You're in the model UN. They should give you legos and a propeller hat
January 3, 2026 at 3:57 PM
I just called my congressperson and left a message, I plan on calling back Monday again. Look up how to contact your representative.
Call your Congressperson now. It will be logged as “Holy cow we got X calls on the week end”. If they’re Dems they need these calls to pressure worse Dems & better Republicans. Don’t give up the ship yall.
Candid answer - as someone who handled constituent affairs calls for years - while they’re not checking the phone right now, the urgency of the moment is important.

Show them you care enough to make the weekend call, and be counted that way. Staffers will clock and report this upstream.

The United States illegally invaded another country and arrested it’s president and his family, is not something I thought I’d be saying. The US admin is completely out of control, and basically a criminal organization

Wow shit was bad when I went to bed, and it’s somehow drastically worse now that I’ve woken up.
