Shao Kahn has successfully merged Earthrealm and Outworld
The fact the Menswear Guy is actively dunking on the Bsky user base now instead of just cross-posting the threads where he does that to Twitter users should terrify all of us.
true. that's bc you've allowed your sense of style to be narrowly defined by fashion brands, instead of thinking about it in terms of cultural history. over the course of the 20th century, many groups have dressed well, even if they didn't conform to fashion trends or bourgeois respectability

A singer known for making jokes smoking a cigarette the way Ariel from Little Mermaid would is definitely something to take seriously
With more actors, pop stars and other celebrities spotted unapologetically smoking, the cultural taboo against it shows signs of ebbing. That worries antismoking advocates. 🔗 on.wsj.com/49om2X4

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

I don't know if I've ever laughed harder in a theater than in Hot Fuzz where Nicholas Angel is on his first fun run in his new town and the music abruptly becomes sinister when Skinner rolls up next to him and releases like five terrible rapid fire puns
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

NYT editors: "we're having trouble shedding non-political readers, how do we alienate normies who occasionally skim the culture page?"
Intern whose parents pay for their upper west side apartment: "how about something discouraging ingestion of the only thing that motivates anyone to do anything?"
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

I have mixed feelings about The Boys but one thing it does incredibly well is immediately immerse you in a world where the banality of evil rules, and it does so by showing Jimmy Fallon just being himself and giving softball interviews to some of the worst villains on earth
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

My best student by a comfortable margin works slowly and methodically. She is not as quick on the draw with calculations as some students but if you ask her to explain concepts she'd run circles around everyone else. Incidentally I also lent her my copy of Dr. Prescod-Weinstein's book.
A note on learning physics ⚛️ for starting PhD students:
At the risk of saying something completely useless because everyone has it worked out

There is no magic trick, your classmates *may* be faster than you, but they are still studying as long as they need to and you are quite capable of the same

The ascendant wing in the GOP is openly, unequivocally, violently antisemitic, meanwhile this man with zero history of antisemitism and the support of most young Jews in NYC has had to defend the fact that he's Muslim for like six months.
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

Saying things like this gives me the same vibe as people who are like "oh like we're even going to have elections again!" It's a very real possibility, but more likely than not we will. It feels more like a cover for not doing the work of finding a candidate who doesn't totally suck.
that whole 'this country isn't ready for a woman president' line is really upsetting because it shows exactly how neoliberalism works, redirecting blame from issues of policy (or lack thereof) onto a flattened, vague type of sexism in a way that ultimately doesn't even challenge sexism!

Liberal islamophobia strongly depends on depicting Muslims as socially backward, meanwhile the most visible Muslim politicians in the US are far and away more progressive on LGBTQ+ and particularly trans issues than the average elected democrat.

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

The right has spent decades calling for the blood of the left and then turning around and acting outraged whenever one of their figureheads isn't treated with civility. They have no idea what to do when a normie with an average moral compass comes back at them with a fraction of the venom.

At this point I think the main difference between Schumer and Trump is that Trump's brain froze sometime in the '80s while Schumer's froze sometime in the '90s
We know Donald Trump watches a lot of television, so I want to say this directly to Donald Trump:

Turn off the tv and do your job.
