In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

This is a mixed blessing. SROs are *absolutely wonderful* for singletons who just want to have a place to bunk with a key to lock, but if they are being viewed as a solution to the *family* housing shortage, this is a potential disaster.
From NYT Metro:

There is a push to revive single-room occupancy housing, where kitchens and bathrooms are shared among apartments as small as 100 square feet each.

Oh, FFS. This is not the cold war, you idiot Democrats who can't see that "socialism" is a large umbrella term with various systems under it, most of which are *more* effective than American capitalism.

House votes to denounce ‘horrors’ of socialism ahead of Mamdani-Trump meeting
The House voted 285-98 to approve a resolution condemning the “horrors of socialism” Friday morning, just hours before President Donald Trump is set to meet with New York’s incoming democratic socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani. Eighty-six Democrats joined with Republicans to approve the measure. Two others voted present. No Republican voted to oppose it. Speaker Mike Johnson and House GOP leaders have decried Mamdani’s election as the next mayor of the country’s largest city, citing his left-wing politics and arguing he is the new, radical face of the Democratic Party. They’ve vowed to make him a centerpiece of their attacks against Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Democrats on Capitol Hill have dismissed the Republicans broadsides over Mamdani, and party leaders criticized the GOP-written measure ahead of Friday’s vote, saying it “selectively lists certain despotic leaders and the harms of totalitarian regimes self-labeled as ‘socialist.’” They did not, however, formally recommend a no vote. A swath of moderate Democrats, especially from New York, are uncomfortable with Mamdani’s rise in their party. The debate over the symbolic measure was derailed for about 10 minutes after Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) verbally attacked Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on the floor, accusing her of being a “friend” of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro despite traveling to the country and seeing the abuses of his regime. Waters asked for Salazar’s words to be taken down, but Salazer instead withdrew her remarks, allowing the debate to continue.

Yeah, this vote didn't go the way Trump wanted it to. This is the turning point we've been looking for. They're not afraid enough of him anymore for him to dominate them.

It does look like the GOP has done the calculations and have realized that Trump is now costing them more than he's gaining them. and it was always a transactional relationship.

Well, well, well. If it isn't the system of checks and balances. We've missed you, buddy! Long story somewhat short: ICE has been terrible for years, but it's been much worse under Trump. During Trump's first regime (~2016-2020), ICE got rocked by a court decision that prevented it from engaging in traffic stops just so it could arrest people for looking vaguely Mexican.

They gotta get hip to antiblackness as this country's program if they're serious about fighting fascism. It's a trickle down effect, the point of America is for Black people to suffer & our suffering trickles down.
