It’s exhausting to give a damn, isn’t it?

To be a person of compassion in a time and place when compassion is in such great demand?

Day after day, these legions of sorrows begin to take up residence in your body...

Hi America!

Your president seems unaware, so just a reminder that Article 5 of NATO has been invoked exactly once, by you after 9/11, and everyone responded. Canada, for example, spent 13 years, $18 billion, and 158 lives in Afghanistan for you.

I hate AI, but it has amazing applications in science/medicine. If there aren't ways around what I said, then I think it should be decided it is in our best interest to scrap it, or like I said, leave it to medicine/science. I dont want to stop using my brain, and I don't choose to use AI.

* Stop putting forward awful bills that then need to be walked back when people protest them

* No omnibus bills

* Stop trying to get a majority that wasn't won in an election through floor crossing. (Yes, they are recruiting. They said so.)

* Don't cut Canada Post services because they "don't make money" (neither do police, fire departments, roads, or schools)

* Increase funding for health and education (yes, these are managed provincially but federal funds are essential too)

* Stop dumping money into recruiting researchers from outside Canada and instead properly fund our existing research community.

* Don't direct big chunks of public research funds to defence (or, as Harper did, fossil fuels).

* Don't use US-owned data services, build secure infrastructure here

* Stop voting with the US or abstaining on UN resolutions regarding human rights (this problem long predates Carney obviously)

* Reverse the cuts to health aid in Africa

* Increase, not decrease, capacity for food safety and pathogen surveillance, especially given US erosion of both

And back to the list (feel free to comment with things I'm missing).

* Cancel the F-35 and stop buying military equipment from the US

* Stop being complicit in the ongoing genocide in Gaza

* Put pressure on the UAE to end the horrors in Sudan (vs. making deals with them)

As an interlude, I'll note three clear and straightforward tests of Carney's commitment to his own rhetoric:

* Reject Trump's "Board of Peace"
* Reject Trump's "Golden Dome"
* Reinstate the DST

Will his fans at least agree with these?

* Stop appeasing Trump, and definitely stop making concessions for nothing in return ("not getting worse tariffs" ain't it)

* Have actions match rhetoric, unambiguously and consistently

* Be honest with the Canadian public - if you don't really want pipelines and Golden Dome, don't act like you do

* Actually listen to Indigenous people rather than trying to convince them to accept pipelines, mines, and oil tankers

* Move Canada's economy away from fossil fuels and extractive industry rather than making us more reliant on those

* Stop relying on private investment for everything, strengthen the public sector rather than cutting it

* Stop doing business with companies connected to Palantir

* Have more women in senior positions of influence

Therefore Donald has to pretend that Iran has obeyed him, so that he doesn't need to go into Iran.
