Anthropic is getting exactly what it hoped for out of this press release - breathless coverage of how “smart” these cooperative role-playing systems are that indulges the fantasy of their being just a little dangerous, when in fact they are responding exactly as prompted

Nobody's ever really captured, to my satisfaction, the way that the internet -- though it promises infinitude, all of human experience & history & art & thought in one place -- has instead produced a kind of narrowing & flattening of experience, made the world seem *less* magic & full of wonder.

A new Florida law sharply limits citizen-led ballot initiatives, threatening fines and criminal charges for petition organizers. Advocates say it’s an effort to silence voters after progressive wins at the ballot box.

Remember before the election when Trump promised IVF would be free?
After he took office, Trump signed an executive order in February asking for a list of policy recommendations “protecting IVF access and aggressively reducing out-of-pocket and health plan costs for IVF treatment.”

That 90-day deadline came and went Monday.
Advocates wait for the results of Trump's executive order on IVF policy
Trump called for recommendations three months ago after a big campaign promise to cover IVF costs. A deadline passed this week with no estimate of when findings will be released.

House Republicans smuggled this👇attack on the federal judiciary into their reconciliation bill. Courts rarely require plaintiffs to post security, so this provision, if passed into law, would render a vast number of existing judgments—including Boasberg's contempt order—effectively unenforceable.

Yup. The three Dem vacancies really just meant 2 Republicans got a pass to not vote for the bill.

If there had been 215 Dems the final vote would’ve been 216 -215, 217-216 or 218-217.

It’s still horrible that they have those vacancies, of course.
Talking about how there were two votes missing when there were two people who didn't vote specifically for that reason who would have voted yes anyway is another way to get shitty clickbait resistrash accounts to get you to blame Democrats. Some of you fall will fall it anyway.

With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately.

Trump officials' showings at hearings today were disasters, but it doesn't make headlines bc the media's default assumption is that Rs are clownish rascals. But if Dems didn't know what was happening at their agencies or what habeas corpus is, it'd be front page news. This is a key media asymmetry.
