In an unconscionable decision, the Smithsonian Institute has decided to no longer support the Biodiversity Heritage Library from 1 Jan 2026. Please someone step up and take it over.
Foundations: please step up and take over the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL). This is an absolutely essential scanned archive of all of the old journals and books from the 1500s to about 1920. Has been indispensable for my research.

This has been the consensus of every leading AI researcher I know who is serious about the science and the evidence, as opposed to a) trying to push a product or a brand and/or b) viewing the creation of AGI as an article of religious faith and devotion.
Vast majority of AI experts believe that key assumption of Biden & Trump Admins on AI- that we are about to develop soon AGI/humanlike AI- is very unlikely to happen soon & lack needed tech. A major US foreign policy is based, as usual, on inaccurate premises.

We've been exploring what author-AI collaboration could look like, working with Edgar Allan Poe's story The Cask of Amontillado as a case study:

Is this a worthwhile way of interacting with a text? Is it something that writers and readers alike could get behind?
