We would looooove to talk to you about the large-scale data centers at the center of this!! There’s land grabs, water rights, massive transfer of wealth to billionaire broligarchs, federal contracts for the cruelty industry, fossil fuel resurgence, rising utility bills, wild local govt behavior…

They haven't met our private utilities like Tucson Electric Power, who can't decide whether our rate hikes are for past or future expenses, or the Arizona Corporation Commission, which is totally fine with whatever the utilities want.

Georgia is expected to lose $2.5 BILLION to data center sales tax exemptions in FY 2026, according to the state’s updated fiscal projections.
That’s 664% higher than the previous estimate made just a few months earlier of $327 million. 🧵

#Amazon’s Ring is breaking up with #Flock! Now that we’ve cut access to 10M+ household cameras with the police and ICE, let’s take it a step further and cut Ring’s partnership with Axon Enterprise.

We deserve a world without surveillance.

Yuuuup. Our use of the internet simply does not scale in proportion to the proliferation of hyperscale data centers. Netflix doesn’t have a billion new movies. We’re not uploading 1000x as many cat videos.
People are now trying to defend their AI generated slop images by saying things like "well, using Netflix and social media use just as much energy and are also bad for the environment" and I just really hate how people have no critical thinking and comprehension skills anymore

What does explain it? The largest transfer and consolidation of wealth in recent human history in the form of land grabs, water grabs, repackaged debt, surveillance contracts for Palantir, Flock, et al, a full resurgence of the fossil fuel industry and corresponding climate death…

Greenwashing was… already a thing? Like we were ALREADY generating and consuming too much energy and companies. Now hyperscale data centers are making that MANY TIMES WORSE. And all they offer to explain their necessity are empty and meaningless marketing campaigns.

We brought community leaders together to build relationships, learned from each other’s campaigns, and strategized local intervention points to knock out #BigTech development!

We have enough material at this point about the absurdity of hyperscale data centers for an entire Bill Hader as Stefon special.

Anyway if you're following AI Financial news at all, the year is 2008 again. Data center construction debts are looking for new bag-holders to take junk debts and make them appear safer through new transactions. lol.

Oh no I couldn’t afford to pay my power bills after the latest data center-caused rate hike and now I can’t access my AI healthcare!!
I lost my job, my kids have measles, and the data center down the road causes power outages every couple days. But at least now I have an AI-based avatar to help me with my healthcare.

I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.
