A great example of the difference between data and knowledge. Data suggested that users didn't give a shit. But that information could not be reconciled with corporate knowledge, and had to be dismissed.
No, Dell is still pushing AI in PCs

Don’t believe the PCGamer hype

To be fair, I do not think they *could* measure productivity changes, because that requires a lot of thought about what that really means and what are useful quantitative measurements that can be used in assessment. To do that *and* in a controlled experimental setting is well beyond them.
If AI coding is so good, where are the performance numbers?

Claude bros know how to measure performance. They just don't.

I had a depressing realization this week... it is easier to find the Copilot button in Microsoft Word than it is to figure out how to insert a footnote in a document.

My work has just rolled out copilot (slow on the uptake, but KEEN AS MUSTARD) and is insisting that we all use it, in a one-of-your-pdr-objectives kind of way. Some managers are already singing its praises for churning out smooth precis of their meetings that only existed to generate other meetings.

actual AI API cost is at least 3x-5x, from whiat we can glean from the openAi tealeaves

45x is a cost i heard from someone doing it on AWS

so at least 10x current prices to make an actual profit at all

the AI "economy" is in that magic moment when moviepass is selling tickets below cost

come the pop, prices 10x*

anyone who bullshitcrafts at length on the subsidised movie ticket economy's fabulous possiblities and implications should be ignored

* rough guess. min 5x, max 40x

I live in the largest town in Britain, and we have a big Tesla dealership.
I have seen exactly three 2025- registered Swastikars, including in around 18,000 miles of motorway travel.
I’m not saying the UK sales figures are being manipulated, I’m just saying the cars aren’t out there being driven.

I can't trust politicians who are anti-trans. Not because I'm "only searching for perfection" which is what centrists will be accusing me of for the rest of my life, it's because if you're not pro-trans you'll be garbage on lots of other issues too. Being anti-trans NEVER exists in a vacuum.

And that’s not intended as shade, they’re just the type of academic “true believer” who have deep faith in the potential of a tech, long after tech companies have destroyed that vision.

Thing about Holly (and Mat) is they get in early on a lot… eg they were big blockchain advocates before everyone realised it was a sham, into NFTs before the monkeys etc.
So, because they had success before a tech goes to hell, they exist in this constant state of survivorship bias.

my first guess is that however they dress this up, bandcamp put this ban into place over spam, because there's only so many petabytes of backed-up disk there

Bandcamp doesn't have the same attention or financial economy as social media, so the pressures are somewhat different. As no-one is buying AI content on BC, it has no value only the cost of storage etc.

Maybe it’s a case of “they’re trying hard, but just can’t stop the flood of slop” but I’m surprised more platforms and social media are not more against AI as a concept, because it’s going to end up destroying their businesses as people flee from the flood of worthless crap.

Its was the natural result of a click based economy even before genAI was readily available... just happening infinitely faster now.

The biggest risk of GenAI is the grey-gooification of the internet. It becomes so easy to churn out low quality content that there is not enough physical storage to host it and bandwidth to deliver it. Let alone being able to find useful/desirable content.

Bandcamp doesn't seem to have a transcode on-demand like say Beatport who sell WAV format but you can buy MP3 or others and they absolutely transcode on-demand to reduce storage space.
