Providing proof of abuse is traumatic. Yet many of us double our trauma by documenting, and get ... crickets
Academia loves asking for proof.

Proof of abuse. Proof of discrimination. Proof your pain is valid.

But when it’s time to hold institutions accountable? Suddenly, testimony isn’t enough.

A bit misty, and from a distance, but a nice clear view of an Indian rhino, the other main wildlife target of the trip

I have two new headshots. Something nice that my uni does for us for free. It is really hard for me to like pictures of myself, especially as I age. Stupid society.

Day 41 of shutdown. This is so painful for families who rely on pay from a federal salary, but also, don't all families deserve healthcare and food?

For the last several decades, scientists have been developing a way to make our maps more reliable with point cloud data collected by lidar. Lidar is an accurate method that helps scientists to map cities, landscapes, and places that were previously difficult or dangerous to access.

Is toad being performative?
“I will read the seeds a story,” said Toad. “Then they will not be afraid.”

Toad read a long story to his seeds.

“It’s an avalanche!” cried Toad. Frog and Toad jumped away. Frog was trembling.

“I am not afraid!” he shouted.

This is inside security at Chicago airport. If you were motivated enough to try and bring your pot through security and made it to the other side, why would you then voluntarily give up the goods? 🤔

It's a buckle down, turn on some Chappell Roan, and measure some rivers kind of morning. This looks like a normal meander cutoff, right? Wrong! The channel that lost flow (left side of image) is expanding again, just a few years after what I thought was a full avulsion. What's the culprit? Wood?

I think it’s not said often enough that chattel slavery was every possible human rights violation in one system

Every single possible human rights violation was visited on enslaved people

Day 34 of shutdown. People are hungry. People are losing health care. People can’t pay their bills. But let’s focus on a guy who threw a sandwich 🤷🏻‍♀️

First vote for #Orecup! Native copper is gorgeous when you actually see it like in the Keweenaw peninsula in Michigan, but most copper ore comes from other copper minerals. Galena is fun and cubic and a lead ore and in some cases can also be a silver ore. Two ores in one!
#OreCup is launching with two famous & beloved ore minerals, #Galena vs #Copper!

It’s actually utterly bizarre to respond to a Black woman who lives in Northern New England and does race justice organizing as if she does not understand Nazis. I’m willing to bet that the people giving her shit have had to fear for their lives from local Nazis way less frequently than she has.

Reminder that this is not an option for many Americans, including “top scientists”, “regular scientists” or otherwise. Lots of reasons for this, including resources and family obligations

I know people love to donate goods, it feels concrete and satisfying, but a food bank can make that $2 or $5 go soooo much further than you can.

Just donate the cash.

And, then they also don't need to assign staff to sort, manage, and figure out how to distribute the random donations.
The science is clear - SNAP reduces food insecurity, improves health outcomes, and lower healthcare costs.

Although fed judges ruled the admin can NOT withhold SNAP disbursements, it appears they plan to do just that.

We’re mobilizing a national food drive - join here👇
