Several years ago I said something like this to a friend: “The MAGA movement is against the Enlightenment itself”, meaning that MAGA seeks to take us away from reason and backward into superstition.

Powerful evidence of that coming true today.

Why do sports matter? Because we matter and we make them matter. All of us. It doesn't matter if it's opening NFL weekend or a silly little Ryder Cup competition between you and your friends, sports is all about the community you build around it.

There’s no legitimate reason whatsoever for military to be on the streets of Washington DC right now.
No rebellion.
No violent riots.
No threat to the gov’t.
No crime wave so extreme it requires the military.
This is all bullshit.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

I’m not a huge Oasis guy (and less of a Led Zeppelin guy) but props to them for finally doing what I always wish Zep would have done at some point - give the gift of the live show to millions who would feel so much joy from it. (I’ll remain hopeful for @remhq.bsky.social to do the same.)

(1) some of this precedes Trump and is bigger than Trump.A story about how we allowed our rights to be eroded post 9/11
(2)Trump takes that pre-existing condition and pours gasoline on it
(3) a gov’t that treats its own citizens as the enemy is not fit to govern in a democracy
