A friend bought me volume one of a het slice of life romance shojo manga for Xmas.

Gonna start sharing my random pursuits
Been eating a lot of mushrooms lately and got some morels yesterday.
I don't chop prettily when it's just for me but both of these slapped.
Yes I'm using a somen plate to deal with the extra tomato and mozzarella juice.

This can happen internally within production, too. Many production managers are so detached from the work that their job becomes to create more pipelines and reporting structures for the already busy producers below them to use a few times and then revert back to what actually works.
Many game studios have "shadow production", in which someone sets up a parallel (but functioning) system of organization to compensate for the inadequacies of whatever methodology the actual producer insists on employing; thus requiring an act of continuous translation between the two.

*Someone* is always doing production. Ideally that's the producer, but if you have a broken process it's someone else who's going outside the bounds of their job description so that other work gets done.

Some day, someone is going to have to start the conversation about how the influx of tech industry middle managers and executives into the games industry via nepotism and acquisition is stifling creativity and enshittifying actual production practices.

I think it's important to remember that bad games are also years of someone's life time work.
It sucks to release a bad game because few on the dev team are under false pretenses that it is somehow a good game and many tried in vain to change the course of history.
