I am begging non-autistic folks talking about Trump and RFK’s dubious claims about #autism and Tylenol to do more than just point out the scientific flaws in the argument. I’m begging you all to renounce the idea that autism is a tragedy in the first place.

“non-autistic participants felt the emotions of autistic narrators significantly more intensely in the body compared to non-autistic narrators.”

if you’ve ever been asked by a therapist “and how does that emotion make you feel in your body?” and wanted to scream, you know why this research matters
Between 11 and 66% of autistic adults think about suicide during their lifetime, and up to 35% plan or attempt it (2020).

"Obviously, I'm wondering now, if part of that is being driven by the fact that nobody's understanding them, empathizing with them, you know, feeling what they're feeling."

Yeah having principles and not being willing to sacrifice human beings to the machine is super inconvenient.

Leftists are people who argue with each other on how to make the world better for other people.

Which, like, I mean it's better than arguing with everyone about how to make the world worse for other people, which seems to be the norm elsewhere.

The thing I miss most about Twitter is connecting with parents of #ActuallyAutistic kiddos. Like genuinely the best part of it when I had a tweet that got a lot of attention was if a parent saw it and I got to talk to them and help them understand their kid better.

I suspect there is a decent percentage of undiagnosed #ActuallyAutistic academics. Think about it:

-> Research is just getting paid to have a special intrest.

-> Teaching/lecturing is just getting paid to infodump, but to an audience that’s obligated to listen and take notes.

Autism Speaks actually fighting for autistic people alongside autism advocacy organisations, is kinda huge.

I'd never wanna give AS any credit, as they perpetuate the ideas for wanting to erase autism, but everyone working together is important when disabled lives are being judged and decided.

"actually autistic people CAN pay taxes" is not the woke take u think it is. some people are in fact disabled to the point of being unable to work or "pay taxes." they are still worthy of life, love & government resources. the value of a human life cannot be reduced to the sum of one's labor.

I know some folks are like, "I'm autistic and I CAN do those thing" and that's great, but that's actually not why this statement is horrifying.

It's horrifying because he's saying anyone who isn't "normal" and isn't "productive" don't have valuable lives, so should they really be alive?
The full quote from RFK, Jr. is truly disgusting and this is 100% him calling for institutionalization of autistic people. This is horrifying.

Dang truly wild times we live in if autism speaks is calling out dangerous disinformation about autism.

My question is: has RFK Jr ever written a poem? Because if he has we should probably destroy it. I don’t want to know what Dead Animals McGee writes poems about, and I think the world is better off without his poetry. #ActuallyAutistic

Perioidic reminder that the reason you didn't see autistic people with intellectual disabilities on the street five decades ago was not because they didn't exist. It's because they were sent away to institutions and their parents were told to put away pictures of them.

I called my senators today and told them I want Cory Booker to be the senate minority leader.

We can’t hold hearings. We don’t have subpoena power. We can’t pass budgets. But we CAN filibuster, and we CAN change party leadership.

I’d like to thank my paternal grandparents, probably. My dad, who couldn’t be here to accept his autism. The vaccines. My parents never gave me any, but I assume I absorbed them by osmosis. They also sent me to a Steiner school - what is osmosis? I’d like to thank Simon Baron-Cohen…

This Autism Acceptance Month I would love for everyone to accept when people openly stim because self-regulation rocks!

I understand the initial discomfort if there's hand flapping at the grocery store because it isn't often witnessed & hasn't been culturally acceptable...until now.

accept it plz!
“Stimming had a SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE impact on autistic adults’ self-rated self-efficacy”

“Results CONTRADICT the negative view often expressed suggesting that stimming should be eradicated”

“Stimming has a POSITIVE effect and SUPPORTS autistic individuals’ ability to COPE with difficulties”

it’s good to have confirmation! i’ve been giving people this advice for months, but here’s an immigration lawyer saying the same:
PSA — For anyone who _must_ travel to the US from Canada, TSA pre-clearance allows you to decline questioning _while on Canadian soil_. Without TSA pre-clearance you can be detained while traveling _on American soil_ , and any rights you have DO NOT apply there.
