Sorry, but this is getting silly. It’s a private members Bill not a government Bill, addressing a complex and gravely important issue, which also has considerable resource implications. The Lords is scrutinising in the way often only the Lords does. And we should be thankful

Whoa, just watch the first episode of BBC’s new Lord of the Flies adaptation. Beautiful and also so so so unsettling. I mean we know that already, but talk about creeping dread…

On Avanti to Manchester, which had to stop outside Stafford for 20 minutes while a Jack Russell was rescued from the tracks. Said Jack Russell was then driven by the train to Stafford station and back into the arms of its worried owner. Humanity prevails.

oh I've written about this before! one of the big problems with people developing those assumptions is also that they become entirely unable to then engage with normies who represent like.....98% of the population, and whose beliefs are formed on a much more case-by-case basis
The problem with social media is that you’re only allowed to hold opinions in batches. If you believe X and Y, you must also believe Z, which is atmospherically similar to X and Y and believed by all the same people.

If you don’t do this, everyone hates you. It makes actual thinking impossible.

If you follow the present logic of some Ministers and senior advisers like Milburn, it’s the act of deeming children eligible for support such as via SEND or DLA that predicts poverty in adulthood (‘a lifetime on benefits’). The support is cast as the ‘structural barrier’
Disabled people have a poverty rate 8 percentage points higher than people with no disability.

🗣️ Hear Lead Analyst @datataha.bsky.social set out some of the additional structural barriers that disabled people face, and why the government must increase their support. 👇

Excellent thread 👇
The accusation that the Lords are “obstructing democracy” by supporters of the assisted dying bill is a ridiculous one that shows up the flaws in this process that have been there from the very beginning – which have repeatedly been covered up by heated rhetoric (1/?)

Up & out early to run from Bermondsey to Battersea Park where I had the most delicious bacon bap (well, ciabatta. They don’t do baps in Battersea, which is a shame cos it could be called a Battersea Bap). Anyway, has made me want to run to Battersea every Sunday.

Ossoff: "This is a seismic event. This should have people across the country absolutely shook. This is a huge deal. This is an FBI raid on the Fulton County Elections office ... This is a shot across the bow at the midterm elections. He tried to steal power when he lost it in 2020."

As someone owning a leasehold flat, I don't feel at a practical level that Ground Rent is the real issue for most. It's uncappable runaway service charges that presents the bigger threat.

Been invited to speak to a group in Scotland about how social care is framed (or the framing of social care can be influenced) during elections this week. It got me thinking.... so I've written a blogpost.

Holy shit. We're back on the moral crusade against people who live with mental ill health revival wagon. Once every ten years like an ancient curse. 'it's our moral duty to make people already struggling feel much worse for their own good. Activate the reserve workforce for jobs that aren't there!'
