There's still plenty of time to treat yourself to this excellent neuro-affirming stocking-filler penned by neurodivergent humans. I see no reason not fill your boots and your brain-bodies with ideas of new ways to develop a nourishing practice 💕

The image of autism as “only white boys” leads to underdiagnosis, discrimination & isolation for many

Our autistic community is much more diverse than that! ❤️

If you’re wondering if you might be Autistic but ruling it out because some of the diagnostic criteria don’t apply read on.
Initially Autism wasn’t considered a likely explanation for my difficulties because I was married, employed, seemed to cope with change, and had social skills.

If you are an occupational therapist who wants to deepen your understanding of neuro-affirming practice AND walk your dog at the same time, I highly recommend the Two Sides of the Spectrum podcast by Learn, Play, Thrive

Language I avoid using: casual references to violence when congratulating others (like ‘you killed it, knock them dead’). You may not know what past experiences your listener has had.

A brilliant watch @jceoltasmith.bsky.social, well done!
Devastating language is being used to describe people who deserve care, compassion, and benefits. If people saw how chronically ill people are, and they are still refused help, they wouldn't believe it.

Empire of Normality by Robert Chapman is a phenomenal book that takes a Marxist approach to neurodivergence. Interested in occupational justice? Read this book.

This is fascinating. Definitely worth a read.

Imagine these kinds of ideas being introduced and explored during autism assessments instead of the deficit based approaches we have now.

I’m visiting my mum tomorrow who has been detained under the MHA for several years. She was described by a psychiatrist as “suffering from rage”. I don’t think the possibility she is neurodivergent has even been considered. Is this commonplace in older adult mental health?

We have a manifesto and lots of ideas to support those wanting to create Neuroqueer learning spaces and everyone with provide somatic and cognitive liberty
The contemporary classroom is a bastion of neuronormativity. We neuroqueer to fight for the right to learn differently.

Behaviorism denies flexibility and choice and is the antithesis of Neuroqueer Learning Spaces (NQLS).

I don’t like to talk about neurodivergent sense experience in terms of hyper and hypo sensitivity. Because there is no “correct” or just-right Goldilocks standpoint from which to judge. Neurodivergent people are not “incorrectly” experiencing the world. To say “more so” or “less so” misses this.
