for the people in wisconsin, this is your time to call your representatives to oppose the vpn ban in wisconsin!
Wisconsin is about to ban VPN use for "material harmful to minors," part of a larger bill age-verification bill.

The final vote is tomorrow.

If you're based in WI, or have fans or friends who are, have them contact their legislator NOW.

who could have seen this coming?

tl;dr: KOSA demands everybody identify themselves mandatorially. Its also anti-LGBT and very fashy.

I am fairly sure the point of this is so AI money idiots can train their models on "human data" verified by mandatory ID.

Just emailed my MP about Bill s-209, the age verification bill currently in the Canadian senate

If you want to fight this bill that endangers online privacy & young people's ability to access resources on sex ed and LGBTQIA+ identities, you can use my email as a template for emailing your own MP

Reminder if they repeal section 230 companies can be sued for what people say on their site as if the site endorses it. So censorship will be 1000x worse and content creators will be unable to do their job. And for those who buy and do comms. Probably won't be able to do that. At least not easily!
Call or email your reps about Kosa and Section 230
If S230 is repealed any website or company can be punished for what their users post and so will have to censor or limit who can post. And Kosa is requiring every website to have ID verification

Email or call your reps!!

Okay, listen, for the US folks, Section 230 is what makes the internet the interne; a landmark legislation that allowed freedom to say and host what we want. If 230 is gone, how else am I suppose to tell large companies to go fuck themselves? Call your reps, scripts in the video.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt made a 12-minute response video to people mad at him supporting mass surveillance and censorship, and somehow got even MORE wrong about Section 230 than his original congressional testimony.

Section 230 is instrumental in allowing the internet to exist as it does now. If it gets repealed, you can expect the internet to essentially shutdown

Call your reps and demand they oppose its repeal
at times i feel like yelling at ppl to call ur reps is pointless, nobody cares, and the only way to get ppl to listen is to morph into mr beast or jake paul. but im not even sure they would exist w/o section 230. u wouldnt have social media or messaging w/o it.

so i called my reps and u should too

Reminder that they're still trying to repeal section 230 (thereby making platform holders like bsky legally responsible for content posted by their users etc etc)

There is still a need for you to blow up your rep's phones on this if you enjoy being able to do things like "post" or "have an porn"

Section 230 is what protects free speech on the internet. If it is repealed you can forget about all US hosted social media platforms and forums.

It would be like when Tumblr got rid of adult content but for EVERYTHING, every legally or politically complex subject would be censored.

"Regulate big tech"

says a big tech AI company paying 20millin to promote KOSA

KOSA which I just learnt would only apply to mass censor social media, but leaves AI untouched

Any tech policy backed & lobbied by big tech itself is not good for us

You're the voter. Demand better.
