Hey everyone! 👋I’m an EM doctor who just made the migration from the bad place. Passionate about Chicago, medicine, Medicare for all, repro health access and rights, and appreciate photos of cats/dogs/beautiful places. Not a very serious person.
Does anyone have online classes for medical Spanish? Shockingly, things like duolingo and Babbel are not cutting it for actually learning. #MedSky

My new shop is slightly lower acuity than where I had been working and I almost forgot how electric it can feel to run a successful, challenging resuscitation. We’ve had a few the last month or so and it feels good

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.
"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 37 people in the raid.

Had such a refreshing and rejuvenating weekend at the @womeninmedicine.bsky.social Summit. It’s so important to see the amazing work others are doing and learn how to lift each other up.

So thrilled to be at the @womeninmedicine.bsky.social summit! Thanks to @darakass.com for pulling me in.

It’s hard for me to explain why Noah Wyle winning for the Pitt feels so momentous but then I saw someone say this and it feels right.

It’s not just that he plays our job (well), it’s how much he stands up for us in every interview and every chance he gets. It feels like he gets it.

The biggest change b/w my residency trailing and real life is the use of ultrasound, both POCUS and formal. Most of my sites only use POCUS for venous access and formal US only available during business hours. In residency we POCUS'd everyone. I even took a formal TEE course which I never use.

Just had a very frustrating interaction to end a very busy shift. I had been busy but in a good mood all night and that is all squandered. 😑

It’s been ~1 month since I switched jobs. I miss friends from work but am generally much happier.

No more admin = free time and not on 24 hr call for emergencies. Your girl was tired.

Commute is now a 5 min bike ride.

The hospital has AC?? And Epic?? And generally functions?? What is this?!

In high school, I took a class called “Film as Lit” led by my favorite teacher. It was a seminal moment in my appreciation for movies and how I view the world. That teacher passed a few years ago. I miss him dearly.

Hello Bluesky!
have you heard about 70MM IMAX releases recently? did you perhaps notice that Chicago (the third largest city in the U.S.) didn't have a location on the list?

this is because we lost our only "true" IMAX 5 years ago!

now we are seeking support to get a new one built (or something)

Started a new job that’s a 5 minute bike commute.

Currently seeking recs for a commuter e-bike. Bonus if it handles speed bumps well, as half that route has speed bumps. I don’t need a ton of cargo space.

Shift 3/5 (hours 34/54) done in this stretch. Just had my last shift at one of my two hospitals after working primarily there for 2 years. Bittersweet.
2 more shifts to vacation and a new job!

Maybe it is just the particular soul-crushing that my job has been doing lately, but currently I feel so hopeless about the state of urban, community hospitals. Every single person I talk to says that in low SES areas, the hospitals are all falling apart with no lifeboat

NEW: More women have nearly bled to death during miscarriage under Texas’ abortion ban.

Experts say the trend paints a troubling picture of the harms of unnecessary delays in care. “This is striking,” one doctor said. “The trend is very clear.”
