I would add that @michaelturton.bsky.social's columns are a living proof that one can unequivocally and fiercly support Taiwan without failing to criticize its government or its society when criticism is warranted.
I somehow missed Monday’s (always excellent) Notes from Central Taiwan column. Low wages and an extremely toxic ‘boss’ culture are major issues in Taiwan that never genuinely get addressed by the government-at least not in any meaningful way. @michaelturton.bsky.social @royngerng.bsky.social

It’s time to proscribe these psychos as a terrorist organisation.

It’s intolerable to imagine that they could register a Nazi party in Australia today & the only thing standing in their way is they can’t use an obscene name.
Bloody hell.
A 17 year old Canberra boy (a nazi) was planning a chemical weapon attack in Canberra.
He wanted to attack non-white homeless people with chlorine gas, and live-stream it.

He said “white revolution is the only solution.” 😳

Fuck me.

Wow, it's almost as if the supposedly crazy conspiracy theory that mainstream media wouldn't touch - that the Kremlin has kompromat on Donald Trump through his ties to pedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and this explains his tepid support for Ukraine - is actually true.

He is the consummate buffoon. As contemptible as they come, but in his own way a child, crawling around a sandbox trying to find his toys. Completely out of his depth, and a real albatross for the legislature.

In short, a model late-era KMT leader.
This stance by KMT Legislature Speaker Han Kuo-yu (President Lai should retract his remark that China is "a foreign hostile force") echoes ‪Stephen Wertheim's recent piece in Foreign Affairs (or maybe it's the other way around).

This amounts to saying that acknowledging the threat is a provocation.

What the Epstein files show is the *solidarity* of many men-across class, race, religion, profession & party affiliation-in the global political project of keeping the boot on women's necks.

People have no problem understanding class solidarity among the rich. Why can't they see gender solidarity?
Like I dunno, maybe the reason it took a lady to break open the story of all the men protecting the dude trafficking underage girls is because the male journos were all emailing him making jokes about it?

Had my flu shot and, since I was at it, a Covid shot as well, all free as I turned 50 this year. Thanks Taiwan.
Prepping for a great Christmas so I got my flu shot. Here in Taiwan it costs US$30 for people under 50, even with insurance. Worth it! Vaccines are among our most incredible discoveries—a silent molecular armor.

...and this.
It reframes the alliance hierarchy — Japan becomes the moral and legal first responder, not the junior partner waiting for cues.

Takaichi’s move is both strategic deterrence
she turned Japan’s legal framework into a geopolitical truth that Washington cannot ignore.

...this, ...
Takaichi just made it harder for the U.S. to maintain “strategic ambiguity.”

If Japan’s own law defines Taiwan’s defense as existential to Japan, then Washington cannot afford to appear less committed than Tokyo.

THIS, ...
Beijing now knows that any Taiwan invasion automatically raises the question of Japan’s right to collective self-defense, not just moral support.
It’s a signal to both allies and 🇨🇳: Japan no longer hides behind ambiguity; it operationalizes deterrence within law.

The BBC will never learn, because they refuse to admit what they are deliberately doing.

They have been contacted too many times over the decades about bending the editorial knee for the CCP and/or the KMT for it to be anything but policy/house style.

It's a disgrace; it's the contemporary BBC.

Rape is the distillation of the far-right worldview that Trump embodies: a gleefully sadistic act of domination carried out as fulfillment of a supposedly natural hierarchy. It would be weird if Trump wasn’t a rapist, given his ideological commitments—which is before you get to all the accusations.
i mean c’mon. the president’s best friend was the most notorious pedo in the country’s history who ran a massive child trafficking ring. every bit of circumstantial evidence we have says that trump was a participant. if this were a criminal trial we’d have enough evidence to compel a plea deal.
