this is small comfort given he has state power and i don’t but i am struck by what an obviously weak and fragile man miller is. a blubbering piss baby whose entire affect and personality is an attempt to make up for his profound feelings of inadequacy
MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries

Amen to this!
Since he became PM, Carney has consistently identified China and Russia as the main security threats to Canada, while also deepening security ties with the US. That has to change.
You can buy all the guns in the world, but they're useless if they're pointed in the wrong direction.

Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul reminds the United States if they attack Greenland it'll be war with Europe: “Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. And since Denmark is a member of NATO, Greenland will, in principle, also be subject to NATO defence”.

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?

M: Nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over future of Greenland

"We will survive one day longer than the gangster, and with the incredible solidarity we have shown, we will emerge one day stronger. Canada will never break."
Since the invasion of Venezuela Trump has trashed all the arguments he used to justify the invasion. This was a shakedown. Since day one of the Trump regime I have used the term gangster fascism to describe his actions.
It has serious implications for Canada.

It is trivially easy for administration officials to use prediction markets to bet on the policies they authorize. We may have just seen it in Venezuela.

No one wants to be the easy target by being first to defy Trump. Canada and other like-minded states really need to organize themselves to act in simultaneous solidarity. We can't afford the "it's impossible" attitude.

Leaders of (the few remaining) functiioning democracies should read a history book and stand together against the rogue country that has now declared it intends to continue invading other sovereign nations in violation of international law. Something tells me they won't & the outcome will be tragic.
Canada, like other western states, is worried about alienating Trump. But that just invites isolation next time, when it's your turn over the barrel, and everyone else stays silent for fear of alienating Trump.

Democracies worthy of the name must stand together for the rule of law, or fall apart.

Missing from this story: In the face of Trump’s regulatory vandalism, the Carney government is slashing the funding of Health Canada, the department that has to deal with the fallout. Hardly the actions of a government taking seriously the collapse of US informational and regulatory reliability.

Carney's entire strategy is based on the assumption that the threat to Canada is purely economic. It's not. The US is a political, authoritarian, fascist threat. Economics is downstream from the political. Unless the political threat is addressed, no number of clever trade deals will protect us.
