Today is the birthday of Thaddeus "Ted" Shearer (Nov. 1, 1919–Dec. 26, 1992), cartoonist, advertising art director, veteran of WWII, & creator of the comic strip Quincy. He also illustrated the book series about young detective Billy Jo Jive, which became an animated segment on Sesame Street.

The American media decided Jenny McCarthy had a good point about vaccines even though she's not a doctor and now 15 years later we have an entire culture war on intelligence and science. Access journalism being treated as anything more than entertainment has destroyed this country.

I was watching "The Invisible Man" last night and he's always like "YOU BETTER LISTEN TO ME. OR I'LL STRANGLE YOU!!!"
Getting strangled by a 5' 7" naked guy doesn't seem like much of a threat, even if he is invisible. Maybe he has Extreme Short King Energy though.

Even though I don't think there's a "wrong" way to make art, and even though I think that tracing is fair game, Land's use of it is like putting a tomato in a fruit salad. It just Doesn't Work.

Being an artist is discouraging enough as it is without a bunch of Social Media grifters dictating pointless rules for art. Did Jean-Michel Basquiat follow the rules? Did Prince follow the rules? Did Garth Marenghi follow the rules?

I don't understand this whole anti-reference thing I keep seeing floating around in the art community these days. How is anyone supposed to do portraits without reference? Memorize everything? That's impossible!

I just finished watching the original Dracula, and I realized they never show his fangs in that movie. It's implied there are "puncture wounds" on the necks of his victims, but there's never any visual indication of the wounds or what made them.

I just finished watching the original Dracula, and I realized they never show his fangs in that movie. It's implied there are "puncture wounds" on the necks of his victims, but there's never any visual indication of the wounds or what made them.
Fist of the North Star redemption arcs are like "he was a mass murdering hyper-violent psychopath, but that's only because of how gay he was for his martial arts rival, so we forgive him."

Ayden's list of Marvel Legends he wants for Christmas doesn't have any villains. It got me thinking about how comics are more character driven and drama focused now, and regular villains don't feel as important as they once did. Events are usually heroes vs heroes, or there's a Big Bad like Thanos.
