in real terms, #7 would give states leverage to put an end to surges, #8 would give states the ability to outright stop construction of new detention facilities, #1 and #6 would slow the rate at which DHS could train and deploy officers, #2 and #10 would likely shrink the pool of recruits

Just found this interview I did aaaages ago with the excellent David Byrne when his book How Music Works came out (it fits with a bunch of stuff I'm thinking & writing about now about art as a product of community & place & the weird notion of "professionalism") www.irishtimes.com/culture/musi...
A talking head who is making sense
David Byrne makes a fluid, intelligent analysis of what shapes music in his new book – from the sweaty confines of …

Alison Luchs, who has worked at the National Gallery of Art for 47 years, agreed to learn Gen Z slang and make videos because she wanted to raise interest in the museum’s art.

Any American watching this play out between regime forces and journalists overseas would recognize it for what it is.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

One thing I hope people take the time to acknowledge: The sea change in public opinion has been achieved because violence, though encourage by a lot of people here online, was never once employed by the movement. Violence was solely the purview of the state and that is why the state is losing.

No, @tomsuozzi.bsky.social, we don't want you to do a "better job demonstrating" how "critical of ICE" you are. (Whatever the hell that means.) We want you to pull the lever of every single enumerated power of Congress, and every form of influence you have, to STOP ICE. Hope that clarifies things.

Federal law enforcement agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Jan. 24 according to local police officials. DHS told Fox News that the man was “armed with a gun”. A video of the shooting appears to show that a gun was taken from the man before the first shot was fired. x.com/BillMelugin_...

Resistance idea for folks at protests worried their videos will be lost when their devices are taken:

Have a friend at home set up a Streamyard account

While you (possibly others) are in the field, they send you a link to the stream

Video goes live on multiple platforms & is stored w/ Streamyard

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.
