Distraction from Today's News. Let me infodump about my favourite Pictish stone carving, called "Old Scatness 3" after where it was found.

He is one of my favourite drawings, and he has a very important lesson to teach us. I tear up just thinking him because he's so wonderful. (1)

If they're not going to get rid of RFK Jr., everyone just ignoring him as if he has no authority also works for me.
GOOD NEWS: Despite RFK Jr saying he would cancel $500 million in mRNA research, the House Committee on Appropriations has passed a spending package, that includes $1.1 billion for “advanced research and development” at BARDA, which includes research on mRNA vaccines.

For folks not in DC:
- There are full-on police checkpoints most nights
- Gangs of 30+ federal agents roam DC
- National Guard folks w/ guns patrolling a Harris Teeter
- Every day, multiple friends see ICE kidnapping ppl
- Daycares are scared to have kids go on walks due to ICE

So MAGA’s latest faux outrage is that male cheerleaders exist. They think it’s another “woke” liberal thing. Just dropping these pics here so someone can identify these radical lefties. 😉

The White House is mobilizing red state military forces to occupy a Democratic stronghold and let me tell you: No one has ever pretended something isn't happening harder than Democratic leaders are pretending this isn't happening right now.

Why does weather underground show we have low pollen, specifying grass, when my pollen app (and my aching head) shows we have high ragweed and chenopods?

Will be hard to explain in the future that the US government went antivax, causing a lot of avoidable suffering and death, not in response to any negative incident with vaccines, but to the biggest, fastest, most successful, most impressive vaccine rollout in history.

A bird flew into my window. It’s quite difficult to photograph, but the imprint is incredibly cool. Individual feathers are visible.

You know how people called women hysterical for predicting the right wing would take down Roe v. Wade (which they've done) and then attack access to birth control (which they're doing)?

Hear me when I say that women's very right to vote is next.

6 days after Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, a Prague paper published these “10 Commandments”:
‘When a Soviet soldier comes to you, YOU:

3. Don’t tell
4. Don’t have
5. Don’t know how to
6. Don’t give
7. Can’t do
8. Don’t sell
9. Don’t show
10. Do nothing’

If there isn’t a law against allowing individuals to enrich uranium, there should be.
The first privately developed U.S. nuclear enrichment facility is going to be built in Paducah, Kentucky at the site of a former nuclear fuel plant.

The US government is now allowing a private citizen to enrich uranium, aka nuclear bombs.

That private citizen is "destroy humanity" Peter Thiel.

The political situation in the US is intense and attention grabbing, but it doesn’t change the fact that literally larger (global!) forces are changing things in potentially catastrophic ways. Island nations are already hemorrhaging population, for instance. And the gulf stream may be quitting.

I’ve been reading Girl Genius for lo these many years. I’d like them to be able to keep making it.
If you’re at all nerdy and haven’t been reading Girl Genius either in print or online, do so! Old timers like me might remember Phil’s “What’s New with Phil and Dixie” from Dragon magazine. Felt like a good time to give back, so I did!
#girlgenius Hated to do it, but we started a GoFundMe. These are chaotic times, and no mistake, and all of a sudden we realized they were chaosing all over us. (www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-f...) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's insane. I mean everyone knows that's insane – right?
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

Same with agriculture. The housing issue will hit us soon, but agriculture will hit almost immediately.
Spot on. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. It ‘s relatable, and humanizes the issue in a way everyone can understand.
