I got up to go to the privy and fetch my food bag, and saw this. A Durston Xmid, with.. a giant pair of scissors stuck in the ground. I hadn’t had coffee yet, and I was confused. I’m still confused. Why would you carry a giant pair of scissors on a backpacking trip?

A photo from earlier this year, on the Arizona Trail a little north of Oracle. I had been sitting in a wash in the sun facing the other way, peacefully eating lunch while my tent dried. When I stood up to pack the tent back up and go, I saw this. Ruh roh, Shaggy.
