Catherine O'Hara is great in #HomeAlone isn't she? Not something 10 year old me really appreciated but she plays it completely straight the way it needs to be and with genuine parental warmth.

I think you had to expect the total death of ad funded content when the ad industry took control away from website owners. Google, etc are all on a path to a fully closed eyeball ecosystem: they will control the content and the ads. A machine for keeping people idle and buying.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

The question people aren’t asking Farage: so, if you weren’t a racist when you were at school… when did that change?

Getting my occasional reminder that aws S3 access logging is absolutely deranged. Might spend more money investigating this cost anomaly than I will save fixing the root cause, so perhaps I should give up. I guess that's the business model 🧌

I laugh at mum for withdrawing from culture because she can't discriminate good tech from bad, to know she's using an app correctly, or getting scammed.

That's happening to me now: I feel flooded with the synthetic, I don't have the muscle memory to sort the good from the malign. It's exhausting.

I somewhat lost my patience with Reform Councillor Bill Piper here.. (from about 1h 27 min in)

it's usually fun the way Youtube and Youtube Music share playlists but you do sometimes end up with a classic Pate a Choux recipe pop up in the middle of your "kneecapping jungle bangers" playlist

Flu jab done. Get yours! There are almost no downsides, the chief one in my case being I now feel a bit naughty for getting an unnecessary second breakfast from the cafe next to the pharmacy.

Gen AI the preferred tool of reform egotists for absolutely everything because it produces the vague flavour of truth but the actual value of dog shit.

(And of course they don't know the difference between writing something with an LLM and producing the image of text from an image model)
Reform UK’s Councillor Dave Poole has put out this bizarre graphic littered with spelling errors.

Our favourite part is where it says Reform UK keeps being called the ‘fat right’.

Then it debuted at a record price of $2M+ per dose, ushering in a new class of wildly expensive drugs. Its story upends the widely held conception that high prices reflect huge industry investments in innovation.

"no criminal record"

there are lots of mandatory refusal reasons for ILR applications already. you even have to list non-criminal fines and penalties alongside any criminal consequences, and have had to do so for years. again: maybe someone could, and should, challenge them on some of this?

Farage shows his absolute weakness as a Trump puppet on LBC. Asked about Trump blathering about a completely unproven link between paracetamol and autism, Farage said “I have no idea, I have no idea” and he would “listen” to RFK Jr.

He went on to say “science is never settled”.

Dangerous.

CRACKS (1975): Legendary Sesame Street animation that was, for decades, considered lost media until it popped up on YouTube. Creepy, queasy, and wonderfully weird, it features legendary sax player Mel Martin and Dorothy Moskowitz from experimental rock band The United States of America.

IMPORTANT 🧵

We've been seeing how RFK Jr & anti-vax lobby has been steadily and effectively reducing access to vaccines in the US.

But it could happen in UK too.

It's a threat worth considering given Malhotra's speech at Reform conf & big overlap between anti-vax and RW populsim.

Trump: "It's too much liquid. Too many different things are going into that baby at too big a number. The size of this thing when you look at it. It's like 80 different vaccines and beyond vaccines."
