My opinion is that 5x is unambiguous and best.

5X looks like the X is a placeholder for some digit.

Latex \times 5× looks incomplete due to the way the × is vertically set against the centre line and not the baseline and is intended to be sandwiched by two digits.

I can tell when a CV is a cut and paste job from templates. I can still tell a clumsy AI job but I have to sift through hundreds, it's exhausting.

I can tell when the photo of a holiday let has been photoshopped. Can I tell when genAI has made the photos "a bit more attractive for families?"
