This calm, cool decency is dangerously absent from our discourse at the moment. Almost everyone is embracing, normalising or ignoring the 'cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.'
We need more Bertrands.

Second morning during which Jeremy Kyle takes over Mike Graham's slot. I hear from a contact at Talk TV that my posts "complicated things a bit" for Mike.

Still they have a spare in Kevin O'Sullivan. They just need to inflate him into Mike Graham.

Katie Lam, the shadow home secretary saying legal migrants need to be deported (The Times) will be seen by many as the most racist comment we’ve heard in recent years. Why this isn’t headline news is scandalous. Which will translate to many as acceptance and agreement. Britain needs to get a grip.

I bring tragic news. The Conservatives, a real political party - no, honestly - have finally worked out that inviting me to sell copies of my books at their conference might not reflect well upon the leadership, and have withdrawn the invitation.

I’m really fed up of being told “NHS staff should be made to work longer hours to bring down waiting lists.”

NHS staff have been forced to endure unbelievable stress because of what politicians have done. Their goodwill and sacrifices have been extraordinary…

Starmer's EU deal is a big break in the suffocating Brexit consensus that has held Britain back for the past decade.

For the first time a British government is doing things to actually undo the damage of Brexit, rather than increase it. For that alone it should be welcomed

This agreement marks the beginning of the end of the suffocating Brexit consensus that has gripped British politics for a decade, argues Adam Bienkov

The U.K. fishing industry - weaponised & then betrayed & then abandoned, by Johnson, Farage & the rest of them - is better off under Starmer’s deal than it was under Johnson’s. That’s not an opinion. It’s counting. Anyone claiming otherwise is a liar.

The government’s abject surrender in the immigration conversation will not necessarily lose them votes. But it won’t win any either because a) for good
or for ill, the small boats are the really emotive issue & b) people who simply resent immigrants will always favour Farage. He’s one of their own.
