YIMBYs often absolutely cannot admit this because it suggests that you can only achieve so much by upzoning the city. In fact some of the biggest gains from upzoning, I’d argue, are to be found in UPZONING THE SUBURBS, allowing low-density burbs to become moderate-density burbs.
The level of denial in the replies is amazing. Lots of people like living in the suburbs. That’s just all there is to it.

Again, the sweet spot here seems to be, essentially, dense suburban development: townhomes and denser single-family, places where most people do have cars but are still compatible with walkability. Of course there are other considerations (climate!) but it balances affordability with consumer choice
I actually think there is demand for family-friendly urban housing - it may not be considered dense enough for urbanists’ tastes, but it doesn’t have to be suburban sprawl either. There’s just a lot of unique needs for families that get overlooked in the discourse.

the actual contrast is between spanberger/mamdani (focused message, vigorous campaigns) and sherrill (unfocused, half-hearted)

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Red states accused the Biden administration of "jawboning" -- coercing social media platforms to "censor" content (mostly COVID misinformation), merely by liaising and flagging false content for those companies. Now the FCC *explicitly threatens* a network over content but that's all good?

The tick-tock on pp. 15-22 of DOGE's takeover of USIP is chilling, involving FBI and USAO-DC officials threatening anyone who stood in the way of the Administration. USIP was brave to hold out as long as it did.
JUST IN: Judge Howell rules that the Trump/DOGE takeover of the U.S. Institute of Peace was illegal and should be treated as null and void.

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory.

Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

The contempt they have for disabled children is rooted in a mistaken belief that there aren't too many of them.

Estimates show that between 1-in-8 and 1-in-5 students in America have some kind of learning disability.

There are an awful lot of SPED families out here, and we will *fight* this shit.
Jessica: When I hear Republicans out there talking about their plan for education in America, I don't hear them talking about making sure disabled kids have access to a public education.

Greg: Because we're against it.

Amazing that, after all of BlueSky loved Judge Howell for enjoining the Perkins Coie EO, she is now a traitor for her USIP decision.

Or maybe, just maybe, judges are doing their level best to apply the law the best they know how in difficult circumstances.

In my experience, the best way to get people to join and engage here is not to lecture them about other platforms, but to sell them on everything that makes this place great: moderation, engagement, growth.

But that’s just been my experience as someone really doing my best 🫶
