Oh, this looks so interesting!! I grew up just outside that swamp and it always seemed so mysterious to me.
The Great Dismal Swamp in VA and NC; and Fort Mose in FL.

I don't post a lot about my actual life, very difficult work trip, followed by my first case of covid ever, and then my wife suffering a bad fall has made this a remarkably stressful week.

I'm really looking forward to embracing my wife again without risking making her sick.

Newsom’s behavior and the fact that many D’s want us all to support this man *today* as the next god-emperor of the US played a non significant role in me wanting to bow out of the whole “American Experiment”. He is not a future I want to look forward to.
One thing I'm a little worried about is how right-wing media and political figures are trying to leverage Newsom's posts. Let me explain.
Now that the GOP is attacking him as being too pro trans, Newsom is pushing back. Hmm.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Some of y'all:
Stop comparing ICE treatment of immigrants to police treatment of Black people!

Me:
No.

How many innocent Black families today will have their door kicked in by cops, who will shoot their non-aggressive family dog, and then just leave?

Psychologically, what does that do to a child?
Again, something that happens to Black people all the time, that we only notice is horrific when it starts happening at 1/100th the scale, to other people.🤷🏿‍♂️

Dept of Justice officials estimate that US cops shoot 10,000 dogs a year.

Is it worse when ICE kills a family dog than when cops do it?
When you’ve pissed off WeRateDogs so much they’re calling you “fucking losers” on Main you have absolutely lost all merit in the court of public opinion

Learning Spanish is probably the hardest thing I’ve tried in 15 years. Accepting I won’t be close to perfect at this for years is the hardest part for me. But today I had a short conversation with a woman on the bus!

These folks are on nobody’s side but their own. They are not our friends and not our allies.
Politico says the cavers have won. CR in exchange for fake vote on ACA subsidies in December. Politico at least says other Dems will give them cover. We’ll see. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

This is a must read

Seems all too common for a person to have some early success in life, see it as proof of their genius and downplay any luck or privilege that could have gotten them there, and then become incapable of self reflection and growth

See also Dawkins, JK Rowling, etc...
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

There's already a draft policy to create a category of "transgender domestic terrorism" within the Trump administration. They could potentially classify all trans people as domestic extremists and terrorists just as Russia did.

I mean that literally - no one is discussing the massive loss of rights trans people have experienced throughout the country.

When Dems talk about trans women in sports, they're not just giving ground on sports. They're giving ground on everything, bc sports bans were the big issue 3 years ago.

People need to understand just how openly genocidal the rhetoric on the far right is getting towards transgender people. They're openly talking about eradicating us and forcefully mass institutionalizing all trans people.

These are people with direct ties to the Trump administration.

I wish I could say this is over the top for these folks.
The official version of the constitution on Congress.gov has removed Article I, Section 9 and 10 from the website which includes the writ of habeus corpus.

I highly recommend a full read of this article--especially if youre a queer journalist.

We reported on several bills that have many harmful provisions that have been completely ignored by the press and mostly ignored by politicians.

We can beat these--but you need to act (suggestions included).

The budget for ICE in the BBB will exceed the budget for the Marine Corps. The BBB is poised to pass. This is increasing their budget by a factor of 10. Ramping up for WWII levels of increase.

Except, the enemy is the public.

We are seeing the birth of a new police state.
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.
