#OtD 2 Jul 1848 enslaved people in the Danish colony of St Croix rebelled. On 3 Jul the governor arrived and rebels said they would burn down Frederiksted if not given freedom. He relented and slavery was abolished on St Croix, St John and St Thomas stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9191...

I like to intersperse my news reading with a barnacle-observation cleanser. It helps my blood pressure, I think.
