You can trash the country, the Constitution, and democracy, but hands off the economy.
It's hard to fuse the Platonic ideal of begging the question with an idiotic straw man predicated on a complete ignorance of American politics, but Bazelon nails it.

Just flawless.

I can't tell you how many people here said "I won't vote for Harris because the lesser of two evils is still evil."

So really, there's no difference between Harris and (yes) Hitler. They're both evil! The only moral stance is to do nothing!

Wait, you could talk shit about "The Revolution."
Impossible to underestimate the depth of the dark impression of “all things are at least a little bad and therefore all things are equally bad” upon American politics post-2016

So would every Democrat in America.
Rep. Pete Sessions: "Would I love to see Ted Cruz being our presidential nominee for the Republican Party? Yes I would."

"Wait, 'nasty, brutish, and short' is supposed to be...bad?"
I guess if this is what abolishing the carceral state looks like, I'm not really sure what the difference is between doing that and making every single living soul into a one-person carceral state.

Evergreen.

"I'll never forgive the Democrats for not doing the things they actually did."
Look, you can't just bring facts to the Two Minutes of Hate. It's impolite to try and interrupt engagement-chasing like that.

"He didn't defend the Nazis -- he defended the people who gladly marched aside Nazis to defend monuments to white supremacism and who were unbothered by chants of 'Jews will not replace us.'"
There are still people who will tell you Trump didn't defend the Nazis in Charlottesville with his "very fine people" comments because of that bad-faith snopes article, but all you have to do is watch the way he can't stop defending Nazis. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/u...

This is impossible. In 2024, Trump won by having a majority of voters cast ballots against him...

Okay, wait.
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

This is heartbreaking: a homeless, 17 year-old girl turns to sex work because she wants braces.

"If the full file is ever released we are confident that no connection would be found" is the exact *opposite* of fact-checking: it's speculation that glibly ignores the mountains of evidence that suggests that Trump was at least complicit in sex-trafficking children.
If my time zone math is right, Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler published this gem about two hours before the WSJ published their story hahaha

What's really amazing is they marginalized the mainstream polls that showed it was a 5-8 point contest and highlighted the outliers: "Breaking news: a poll from RedNationUSA shows the race is within the margin of error!"
It is long past time for New Jersey political reporters to get off Twitter.

Did he just come from his side gig playing sax in a wedding band in upstate NY?
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

NFW this happened.
Dr Oz on the guy who collapsed in the Oval Office: "The president, God bless him, called the wife from the Oval Office giving her updates on how her husband was doing. When you actually know the man as a human being, not as a political actor, you have to love him."

As everyone knows, communists and jihadists are longtime collaborators. bin Laden was close friends with both Habermas and Perry Anderson, and Hassan al-Banna visited Gramsci in prison.
Ted Cruz: "The heart of the Democratic Party today is communist and jihadist and extremist."

This is an amazing video. At first, people seem to think Seavey is joking although it's clear he's dead serious. Also, his critique of Andrews' celebration of cruelty and moral bankruptcy applies perfectly to Trumpism.
since Helen Andrews is in the news again, how about everybody enjoy the best TV cspan ever did, where she gets relentlessly demolished as a truly awful person by her *libertarian* ex-boyfriend

"Neo-Marxists," "cultural Marxism," "woke," "virtue signaling," "Communist" -- it's amazing how many of the words central to the far right are intentionally meaningless.

On the other hand, "globalists" has a very specific meaning.
She's 85 years old. That might have something to do with retiring.

White guy here. If I read that everyone was against my candidates except white guys, I’d wonder what was wrong with my group.
GOP: "we lost, rather than reflection on why.......we must stop women from voting! Anyone who doesn't support misogynistic, racist, & bigoted policies shouldn't be allowed to vote"........if they keep saying they're going to take away our right to vote, let's see what that gets them in the midterms.

Car prices have definitely increased, but it would be better to use the median cost instead of the average. Base MSRP on a Honda Accord is a little over $28K, and the Accord Touring Hybrid is under $40K

Agree with all of this. Matty became the apotheosis of both pundit brain and reactionary centrism: he deeply believes that swing voters (who are extremely low info) can be won by embracing the policies he supports -- which are exactly in the middle of the two parties.
My working hypothesis is that the reason Matt Yglesias was booed off of Bluesky isn’t because Bluesky is too leftist or too toxic.

It’s because he sucks.
November 4, 2025 at 1:02 PM
I know Trump doesn't read, but couldn't someone have explained to him who Gatsby is and what happens at the end?
November 4, 2025 at 12:38 AM
There are a not insignificant number of people on Bluesky who know literally nothing about the Fairness Doctrine but are convinces that it fostered a Golden Age of Journalism and that most of our current problems stem from its repeal.
it’s quite likely that if the fairness doctrine had not been rescinded, the MAGAkkkult would never have risen, nor would this Constitutional crisis (including the endemic weaponization of compelled speech) and the general War on our Constitution lead by trump.

"She tries to ask thoughtful but revealing questions: Where does he go to church? What is he reading?"

She seriously thinks male Trump supporters *read*?

Yes, low-info swing voters will be persuaded by detailed policy positions, as...uh, Donald Trump proved.
October 31, 2025 at 12:56 PM
Here's the thing: Harris beat Trump by a little under six points a year ago and Trump is now extremely unpopular in NJ and nationwide.

Yeah, the GOP have gotten a 6 point swing in a year, but it's unlikely without some major shock.
Might need to revise my estimates upwards. The late movement on these two races is uuuggglly for the GOP
