welcome to bluesky. if the word "mapquest" means anything to you and/or you used it as a verb, you're in the right place

Happy Veterans Day!

I served from 1995-1999. Today, I'll remember those I served with, those we lost -- and all the laughter, boredom, panic, stress and friendship in serving.

And if you're in marketing, do not send out emails today (in the U.S.) that don't at least acknowledge this day.

If you have a small enough audience, I like to ask "who is familiar with <X>". If less than 90% of the audience puts up their hand, explain <X>.

I sympathize with folks who say "I assume everyone here is familiar with ..."; there is some self-selection that goes on when someone chooses a talk.

Enjoyed Jason Oeltjen's (VP of Product Management for @pingidentity.com) take on CIAM:

Spicy: "I think we’re nearing the apex of the AI Agent hype cycle but still there is no clear picture of the resulting impact on the CIAM space even 3 years from now."

Such a good essay on the conundrum facing all workers, but especially workers just entering the workplace.

Best justification for daylight savings time I've ever heard.
A message that's more easily heard today than in the spring: if you live in Seattle (say) and want neither the sun to rise at 4a on the summer solstice nor it to rise at 9a on the winter solstice (and most people want neither of these things!), there will be DST or something like it. Happy fall!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but - DEVELOPERS ARE DISTRIBUTED.

They don't live just in SF.
Brilliant folks everywhere are working remotely and on-site, on software that runs major companies and governments. Forgetting that is short-sighted.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Same, but for watching TV in general.

Those side effects. Whoa!
one of the things that’s vaguely unnerving about watching baseball in 2025 is that every other ad is for some drug with a name that sounds like a tech company from 2002 that comes with a laundry list of side effects like “makes you blind” and “exposure to sunlight may cause skin to catch fire”

don’t just go into a new codebase and start ripping things apart. “live in it and learn the pain points.” — @ohhelloana.blog @beyondtellerrand.com

love this. refactors should be based on actual needs and real benefits, not the desire to “leave a mark” on the codebase

Path dependence is, unfortunately, as true in politics as it is in other areas.

We're where we are because of where we were. (But "path dependence" sounds smarter.)

How I wish LI had a useful API.

But I guess the browser UX can pinch-hit as an API.
Seriously considering building an agent that can bulk clean up LinkedIn connection invitations using puppeteer. This has gotten out of hand
