While I think this is a fun concept for school aged children, I think selecting a healthier option (such as fruit) would send a better nutritional message to kids!

I also selected the same article! I really think this is a great source to look at in terms of medically backed information but verifying the information is easy to follow for new parents and young children regarding their eating habits.
This is a great article as it's from a reputable source: Mayo Clinic. It also has simple tables with how much protein, vegetables, etc, different age ranges should eat. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I have selected an article from the Mayo Clinic that I feel is a high quality source for families and children alike to better understand healthy eating habits. The article shows helpful charts and is supported by clinical evidence.

The threat of food insecurity is one that many Americans face every year. Now more than ever, there needs to be increased support for Americans struggling.
18 million Americans were food insecure in 2023. And this is even before the snap crisis.

That’s 13.5 percent of Americans

I think that Tom's story is really inspiring and can show that in a non traditional way, they can still loose weight.
Tom Carroll’s story showed me that lasting change starts small. His choice to eat one consistent, healthier meal each day proved that progress comes from routine, not being perfect. I’ll remember this when looking over my own diet to build realistic, sustainable habits. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

After reflecting on Tom's story, it is really important to treat patients at every step in their process. Tom talks about how how his diet was on and off for one summer, committed and then took a break, and struggling to find a diet that was sustainable.

The cutting of SNAP benefits poses a massive nutritional issue to the country as many children will not have the access to food that they need to live healthily.
"Let me be clear: The president has both the funding and the authority to fund SNAP during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.”

This was something we covered in Biology, freshman year of college and I found very interesting.
One thing I noted from James Corden’s video is that some people’s leptin hormone doesn’t function properly. Leptin signals fullness, but some are resistant to it, so they still feel hungry. I’ll remember this when offering nutritional counseling to my patients.

After reading this weeks material, a fact about obesity that was interesting to me was included in the study involving former "Biggest Loser" contestants, regarding their metabolic adaptation after the challenge. This is due to adapting to a large caloric deficit.

Mental health is so important for virtually every avenue in life and this includes nutrition. Suffering from mental health disorders will also greatly impact the way one eats. Not supporting this is very upsetting.

The @nsf has also decided that clinical psychology is not eligible for NSF.

This is a crock of 💩

Clinical psych (actually clinical science) is a RESEARCH degree. Let’s just completely not support research training in mental health then.

Bad bad bad bad decision

YESSS! OMG same for me. If all of my coworkers are order out but I brought lunch, suddenly my lunch doesn't stand a chance to their Chick-Fil-A order.
I relate most to the barrier of social pressure to eat unhealthy foods. Especially at work when everyone else is ordering out even when I know I brought my own lunch, it's very tempting sometimes to do what everyone else does. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The barrier I found most relatable was the "expected consumption of unhealthy foods in certain situations." For me, this applies to my dinner after a long exam day or 12 hour shift. When I come home, my roommate and I are both exhausted and want to indulge in take out.

This is awesome! Not until recently did I realize the difference in oils for cooking!
This post is super helpful for anyone who enjoys cooking or cooks everyday! I tend to just buy whatever oil I see first but now I know which oils to start looking for. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I 100% agree with the idea that society has this all or nothing mindset and this can really impact patients needs that we might see in a clinical setting. Cutting out a food group completely for example can have consequences.
#beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
This is such an important take on nutriion, socitety right now has a very strong all or nothing mindset that is more harmful than any specific food could be @beh353 #beh353
There is no “one right way” to eat. Healthy eating is not about being perfect for a day or a few months. Your lifestyle will always be a work in progress. Consequently, making dietary changes is something you commit to for the rest of your life.

I also found this very interesting. There are many places in Europe that eat this was and have been deemed the "healthiest" places to live.
I find this paleo diet very interesting as humans can now replicate the eating habits that an older era incorporated as it led to much healthier bodies and longer lifespans. It is astonishing that those in this era eat healthier than we do now.

The "carnivore diet" was one that peaked my interest. I have seen a few patients actually that have followed this diet and have had a real struggle with digestion as eating only red meat can halt many digestive processes. This diet excludes fruit, vegetables and carbs.

I need to try this! Love making nachos to watch football, this is a great suggestion!

#beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
One of my usual food choices is nachos. To make them more nutrient dense, I could swap regular tortilla chips for whole grain chips and add peppers, spinach, and avocado to get more fiber. I could also add chicken, and black beans to get more protein.

As someone who was raised in a town with 75% of students on free and reduced lunch, the need for healthy and sustainable options for these students was pronounced in my community. Giving these students unhealthy choices such as chips and Uncrustables, does not demonstrate a healthy diet.
If the annual food insecurity survey is canceled - the US has no way to monitor how often this experience is happening.

1 in 5 children in Kentucky are food insecure (do not have enough to eat). This is a 48% rise in two years.

One of my favorite snacks is buffalo chicken dip and chips! However, it is not the most healthy option so recently I stumbled across my new go to recipe. I sub out the cream cheese for cottage cheese(high protein), low carb chip option, and at home grilled chicken.

My 24 hr food log was very insightful into areas of my diet in which I lack. For example, most days I only eat roughly 2 meals per day. I consumed much less food than I realized when seeing everything written out on paper. An area of improvement would be more fruits/veg
