Her name was Melissa Hortman. Yes, she was a Minnesota lawmaker in the Democratic Party. And her name was Melissa Hortman. And she was a real person who did a lot to make life better for a lot of people. And she should have had several more decades to live. So can we please mention her name?

When people say it’s hyperbolic to compare Trump to Hitler or to infer that Republicans are Nazis, they’re obviously very unfamiliar with history.

This is correct. I write creative nonfiction. I am informed by writers of creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, hybrid genres, and yes, scholars. It works so much better this way for us all.
We don’t have to - and must not - place scholarly writing and popular writing in opposition. Doing so is a losing move. Writing exists in many overlapping genres and we get to work in and out of the ones that fit.

Outstanding article written by Sherrod Brown, former US senator from Ohio. Brown has always been and will always be an advocate for those who work, do the hard, dirty, hot, and unappreciated jobs. He has talked about the dignity of work for decades. I know that @connieschultz.bsky.social is proud!🩵💙
Democrats Must Become the Workers’ Party Again
Reconnecting the Democratic Party to the working class is an electoral and a moral imperative, and it will be my mission for the rest of my life.

21st day of Black History Month quote from Mr Baldwin reminds us of a truth that we humans so often disregard. We dismiss we really are so intertwined. But with the family connection, we also need to remember that siblings have fought since time immortal. Sadly sometimes, it is for our lives. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💙🩵

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
