I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

You’ll all have seen the many announcements and PR pieces from #ColossalBiosciences. There are reasons to be concerned about the general message promoted by CB, one being that it is seen >by some< (US politicians in particular) as meaning that we can devalue conservation. A 🧵 1/n

Hey @carriethecurator.bsky.social hear me out. All we need would be about 20 sheets of 2” pink styrofoam, a projector, and two undergrads who can safely use a box cutter and Weeks Hall could have its very own sauropods mount!
For #FossilFriday, my life-size Brachiosaurus forelimb and skull. Because even if they can’t make it to a museum, my students deserve to see and feel how enormous these animals were. Made of expanded polystyrene sheets and painted with acrylics.

Not sure how much reach this will get, but I'm going to give it a try. Publishing friends, I really need to find some additional work as a copy editor or proofreader. Ideally for SFF, because that's been my bread and butter for almost a decade, but I would consider other opportunities as well.

Ineptitude to aspire to, no less.
The world has always had an abundance of people with robust opinions founded in a complete lack of expertise. It took the internet to refine that, distill the essence, bottle it, and present it as an extensive product line of freelance ineptitude.

@moreorloess.bsky.social I was doing an endangered/threatened snail survey near Wauzeka today and I came across this fabulous clast-supported diamict exposed along a power line access road. Scale bar is 50cm.

Pleased to announce the 4th major release of the @wsmproject.bsky.social, the biggest update of the database since the project began.

With thousands of new data, the 2025 WSM brings the most comprehensive picture yet of Earth's present-day stress field.

Making hazard maps is HARD, too. So many questions to answer before drawing lines! Do you show where hazards have been or where they might go in the future? Will the volcano behave the same way it did in the past or throw you a curveball? Do you show the worst case or the most likely scenario?
