pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Now many times are we gonna have to dance this dance before these people learn the goddam steps.

"AI" reproduces, exacerbates, and iterates the biases and values it was trained on. Those biases and values are, largely, very bad. There for the reproductions will most often be as bad and worse.

My sourdough starter is named Jeremy. Last year, he spent most of his time languishing in the fridge; I've since moved him to the counter and am trying to treat him better. My goal is to bake at least 20 things with him in 2025. Here's 1/20: sourdough sandwich loaf. 🍞

If you subscribe to Microsoft 365 Personal, the 40% price increase is a con to upsell you AI. Your old plan and price is still there called "Classic" - but only if you try to cancel.

Microsoft should be ashamed if not prosecuted.

I finally succumbed and subscribed to NYT Cooking so I could make Eric Kim's Cookie Week recipe: lemon and turmeric crinkles. I'm always a sucker for a not-too-sweet baking treat.

paying for things you care about is good and could solve more problems than you'd think
I think if you’re still shocked by websites with paywalls you gotta just get your head out of your ass and look around

I truly tell so many people I work with they gotta make their own website.

I am begging people to add some nuance when they talk about AI.

AI is a huge field filled with actual groundbreaking things like programs that detect cancer.

Saying "I hate AI" when you mean you hate *generative AI* is as inaccurate as saying "I hate animals" when you mean you hate mosquitoes.

Periodic reminder: a lot of what makes AI "work" is exploited people doing the tasks, just hidden behind fancy websites.

It's good that a normie outlet like 60 Minutes is reporting on this.
