@stephenh.bsky.social Saw your suggestion that dissatisfied Ofsted inspectors could become classroom teachers. Some I came across had little relevant classroom experience; one was more bothered that his hotel had only provided cups of coffee and not a cafetière!

I started work in ‘72 - infant teacher/ Early Years. The only time I came across this was when a mum ( Austrian) asked is she should do this. Appalled, I commented that it was a harmful, outdated practice.
My brother still talks about the nursery staff trying to force him to use his right hand. That kind of crap was definitely still going on in the mid seventies. I know that may be fifty years ago to some, but the memory is like yesterday to him.
