"Regardless of the international-law implications of this military action, the Trump administration’s description of what awaits Maduro and Flores has also transgressed basic principles of American domestic criminal law, as well as the underlying philosophical justification for punishment."
Justice in the American system is supposed to be blind and impartial—but attorney General Pam Bondi’s vow of wrathful punishment for Nicolás Maduro and his wife is “profoundly illiberal, suggesting a lust for criminal vengeance,” Paul Rosenzweig argues: theatln.tc/5YvNmsVV

"At this point, Democrats in Congress need to do more than just move to impeach Trump. They should be calling for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Trump for his crimes." ⚖️
Trump is the Putin of the Western hemisphere and should be treated as such including being prosecuted and personally sanctioned—along with his top officials—by other nations. If there is no punishment for this attack, he will 100% repeat it. My article: deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/trump-shou...

"...Cuba called for the international community to resist 'state terrorism' -- no doubt fearful that the Trump Administration intends to go after them next...Rubio, a longtime critic of Cuba, came to the lectern to add, 'If I lived in Havana and I was in the government I’d be concerned, at least.'"
Donald Trump has long said that he wanted Nicolás Maduro out of power, branding him a narco-terrorist and placing a $50-million bounty on his head. What’s next for Venezuela now that Maduro has been captured?

Rubio is claiming that they did not need Congress permission because it was a law enforcement mission. The US is behaving as a global police state, extending its own arbitrary legal decisions to the whole world.

This is not a problem just for Venezuela.

"I would also add that listening to Trump vastly exaggerate the threat posed by Venezuela and Maduro to the United States had very disturbing echoes of the way the George W. Bush team exaggerated the threat of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to justify its invasion"

"The apparent goal is to have Maduro stand trial in America, facing, in the words of Attorney General Pam Bondi, 'the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.'"

The citizens of the U.S. still await "the full wrath of American justice" on the felon running our own country.
“The principles of Trump’s foreign policy remain even harder to discern after the Venezuelan intervention than they did before it,” Idrees Kahloon argues. “But all actions have consequences—even arbitrary and inscrutable ones.”

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they?
