We're attracted to simple big stories to explain complicate problems. In Scotland the idea of the energy transition is a key example.

When oil and gas workplaces close down and workers lose their jobs we're told it's down to the transition. Except usually it isn't. Here's why🧵

This Day in Labor History: September 14, 1889. Black guano workers on Navassa Island rose up and killed five white bosses in an act of desperation in revolt against a racist work regime. Let's talk about conditions of radicalized labor on this American owned island!

Bravo the Italian dock workers.
Heroes wear all different kinds of helmets.
Medical doctors, humanitarian aid workers and volunteers from 140 countries, including Greta Thunberg, are part of the Global Sumud Flotilla sailing to take food and medicine to starving children in Gaza.

Italian dock workers unions will shut down European ports if the flotilla is stopped.

I spent last week in Shropshire, and I'd like to share something I saw in the village of Minsterley, just SW of Shrewsbury: maidens' garlands, aka virgins' crowns, aka virgins' crants.

I'd never seen anything like it, and I'd wager many other people haven't either.
