Ironically if Franz Ferdinand had gone round Sarajevo like this, it might have protected him and World War 1 would never have happened

The Beatles' list of engagements in January/February 1963. Quite busy but they've missed off "11 February - record album". Their third single From Me To You would be written on the tour bus heading towards Shrewsbury for the Helen Shapiro tour on 28 Feb

Mrs H sent me to do a quick trip to the tip at 8.15am. The queue was already so long I managed to listent to this entire pod during the visit. But fantastic fun and such a brilliant pair of guests. I think every one of my nominations for this poll failed to make the top 20. So that's an achievement!

Approaching the statue of William Rathbone in St John's Gardens in Liverpool from this angle makes it look like he's wearing a rather ostentatious hat

Europe can no longer rely on the US as an ally. The UK should rejoin the EU as a matter of urgency.
BREAKING: A Russian newspaper today — “America no longer sees our country as a threat… The US leader’s philosophy is closer to the values of Russia’s president, not the politicians of the Old World… he sees Europe as a liberal stronghold that must be destroyed…”

Read that again.

Always an excellent and fun podcast. Sad to see it bowing out. But a fab pair of final episodes with lots of great guests and here's to the new venture next year!
For our two-part final episode, we have invited back twelve old friends of the podcast and asked them each a carefully curated Blackadder-related question – prompting much discussion, philosophising and rosy-cheeked caperings.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks so much to Tyler for having me on his excellent Goon Pod Film Club podcast talking about an Ealing Comedy classic Whisky Galore. But how did this film help bring the world Frank Zappa and The Doors?!!! Tune in and find out!

A Boxing Day film if ever there was one, this classic Ealing comedy featuring Gordon Jackson & James Robertson Justice is a gently subversive elbow in the ribs of officialdom.

This week on Goon Pod - These Are Your Lives!
This week on Goon Pod with John from @world-of-telly.bsky.social we've been watching Spike's two appearances on THIS IS YOUR LIFE - the first one with impish, chaotic Spike; the second one with Spike much older and slower but still with that twinkle!

A great playwright and comedy writer and a very inspiring and lovely man - John Antrobus, who I had the great pleasure of working with on a couple of series for Radio 4 back in the day
Very sad to report that JOHN ANTROBUS died yesterday (15th December) aged 92. A frequent writing collaborator with Spike, he conceived and co-wrote The Bed Sitting Room, two Goon Shows, sketches for the Fred shows & so much more. Glad we got a chance to salute him with a show earlier this year. RIP
