Sir George Martin was born 100 years ago today. Obviously it will be his work with the Beatles for which he will be mainly associated but before that he produced some ground-breaking comedy records - we talked about it with Andrew Hickey @andrewhickey.500songs.com

This was a hugely enjoyable listen and - one or two surprises aside - a pleasing selection of shows for the panel to chew over. Great stuff all.

What is your favourite Goon Show set during a war?

The Man Who Never Was?
I Was Monty's Treble?
African Incident?
The Man Who Won The War?
Ill Met By Goonlight?
Rommel's Treasure?

... Or another one?

Imagine having the neck to tell Peter Sellers he did a lousy Cockney accent, no wonder he walked out. From May 1956 and the broadcasting of a special Jack Benny BBC show

Listening to the new @goonpod.bsky.social and being reminded that, because Bottom never really hit in the US, and The Young Ones just had the one VHS tape for so long, the Rik/Ade thing that really strikes me as them at their best - or at least purest - is The Dangerous Brothers.

A long time before he started spending his Sundays singing hymns in the middle of dual carriageways, Harry Secombe spent almost the entire sixties heading the smash stage musical Pickwick - and here I am talking about it...

Just saw a post on the Book of Face by some dreary dullard saying Peter Cook and Dudley Moore didn't need to swear to get laughs. Is that what they call clickbait?
100+ comments and unsurprisingly barely any of them can spell Derek correctly

Sadly this wonderful podcast has reached a natural conclusion but sorry to see it end... the great news is that Ian & Michael will be back with a new show about The Simpsons so hurrah!

PS: I wonder where Blackadder will figure in our forthcoming show counting down listeners' Top 20 British Sitcoms?
For our two-part final episode, we have invited back twelve old friends of the podcast and asked them each a carefully curated Blackadder-related question – prompting much discussion, philosophising and rosy-cheeked caperings.

Thanks for listening!

Bought a new car today, and as somebody with no idea about cars the decision was based purely on colour and number of tyres (4).

A Boxing Day film if ever there was one, this classic Ealing comedy featuring Gordon Jackson & James Robertson Justice is a gently subversive elbow in the ribs of officialdom.

I watched Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up And Scald Myself With Tea and my wife walked in.
“What’s this?”
“It’s a film about Nazi sympathisers going back in time to give Hitler the H-bomb.”
A pause.
“It looks old.”
“1977.”
A longer pause.
“Subtitles?”
“It’s Czech.”
She sighs.
“I should have married Jeff.”

Sorry for the picture quality, don't know what happened there. Try this instead.

Peter Sellers as a cowboy Santa demagogue. Rod Serling, post JFK assassination, at his bleakest.

A Cold War Christmas Carol that imagines nuclear annihilation and the extinction of mankind.
