Here’s some bonus one-pagers. Not sure where these fit in, but making comics have become like my journal the last few weeks.

I never went to comic-drawing school, but if those professors are teaching rules instead of storytelling, what’s the point? Just take art classes and read some Will Eisner. That’s what I did. And make comics. That’s really the best way to learn how to make comics, just always be making them.

Something I notice about new comic grads' sample pages is that they're too overly concerned about hard rules their teachers taught them. Hitting requirements like "every page needs a background/ full body shot of the character" really hinders the storytelling.

I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

I feel like I get on here just to scroll and see what people are talking about, and I use the discover feed because I don’t follow that many people. But the discover feed is miserable. I wonder if there is an indie comics scene on here or if it’s an app for fixating on all the bad news of the day.

So--there was an omnibus that collected all of my Spider-Man art (up until that point) and yet somehow managed to include a picture by Mark Bagley from Marvel Age 114 instead of the one that I drew in Marvel Age 114.

In any case--here's what it included and what was missing.

Woke up with post-con come-down. Guy next to me yesterday wasn’t happy w/ how his comic was printed, gave it away for free. Not sure if taking a free book = actual interest, plus dude had no socials & refused to talk to fans or do interviews, but at the end of the day he put out more books than me.

A party that couldn't endorse Mamdani. . . has room for Marjorie Taylor Greene

The party can burn in hell
Raskin: We are a big tent. We must be a huge, vast tent. I say this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene if she wants to come over.

Finally—back to my drawing board. It's been a long, long time I couldn't even set foot into my studio (our late son Mike did the electrical wiring & work; the hole in my soul the size of Mike was just... to... raw). Relieved I still have some drawing chops left.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION:

comics are important and we should think of them as a part of a balanced literary diet

FF #37, inked by Chic Stone, is a favorite of mine. As I’ve said before, it’s almost this Chris Ware kind of ink line, both soft and mechanical, that, to my eye, creates a sense of animation with Kirby’s pencils.

Trying to pay someone and for whatever reason the first payment method kept getting declined, so we used another one and it worked, but the whole step of the way the dude is taking it really personally and acting like if his preferred method isn’t working it’s because I’m not making the effort…???

when I was a baby (aged 17-23ish), people would claim that a well-written, poorly-drawn comic is better than a poorly-written, well-drawn comic. That always rankled me.

Now that I am an adult (43), I know the reason why this seemed wrong to me: because it *is* wrong.

Hit the gym this morning, then met my mangaka buddy at Books Kinokuniya, where he drew me into his page as a bg character.

Went home, worked on some pencils, then went into the city to meet w/ my writing partner. Then back to Queens to meet with another cartoonist buddy about sharing their studio.

The cheapest plan available to me (a Georgian) is over $1,000 a month. Healthcare is no longer an option for me. I will ration the medication I take for as long as I can and then I will wait to die.

It’s weird how much people shit on “Predators,” that movie was at least as good as “Prey” and “Killer of Killers,” IMO.

And really all the sequels make the Predator species look like a bunch of inept goofballs who any spunky protagonist can get the drop on multiple times.

It’s weird to stick to indie stuff for a while and then walk back into a Midtown Comics. Even the non-Big Two stuff is INSANELY polished. I don’t mean that in a snobby way, it’s just a very striking contrast.
