Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

I got assigned to read Simone Weil's essay on the Iliad and force and it is, well, unavoidably enlightening for our times.
What are you reading this weekend?

It's not clear what rhetoric Homan is referring to here, but: I've spoken to lots of activists (mostly faith leaders) who've been deeply involved in pushing back against DHS/ICE, and I have yet to hear any cite a politician as inspiration.

Instead, they cite their faith, videos, experiences, etc.
Homan: "I begged for the last two months on TV for the rhetoric to stop. I said in March -- if the rhetoric doesn't stop, there is gonna be bloodshed. And there has been. I wish I wasn't right. I don't want to see anybody die."

"I'm coming to Boston and I'm bringing hell with me."
--Homan in February

"Do I expect violence to escalate? Absolutely."
-- Tom Homan in March

"I actually thought about getting up and throwing that man a beating right there in the middle of the room"
-- Homan in July, referring to a D congressman

This judge says:
- refugees must be released in the next 5 days
- Returned to Minnesota. Not released onto the streets of Texas, which is what's been happening.
- ICE must alert the refugees' lawyers so they aren't released into dangerous cold without someone to meet them
REAKING: A federal judge in Minnesota has barred the Trump administration from arresting / detaining the state's 5,600 refugees while they await lawful permanent resident status. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I watched DREAM SCENARIO last night and (I'm sorry for this) I just kept thinking how much better every individual scene would work if it was Tim Robinson. Really would have locked in the energy of the movie.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Yet another day
Today is yet another day that I'm reminded that one of the many ways I've changed (grown?) spiritually in the past 5-10 years is that I no longer wonder at the place or need for the imprecatory psalms

Just staggered by the complete moral void of not even *pretending* to wait for more information before pivoting to “the opponent of the state deserved it.” It is so insanely depraved. Soulless.

They are sowing the wind because they *long for* the whirlwind, what they believe it would free them to do
the extent to which this administration is out of control is really summed up by the fact that they immediately went with “this was an armed terrorist there to kill law enforcement” knowing that video from multiple angles completely disproving them was out there and would be seen by everyone
