Keeper isn’t my favorite Osgood Perkins, but it’s still a really enjoyable folk horror movie. He’s on my list of must-watch directors. Everything he makes really works for me.

I was this many years old when I realized The Long Walk and The Running Man are basically the same premises at different speeds.

It bugs me when the pundit class says Trump ran on affordability. He didn’t use that word. He said groceries, deregulation, inflation and mostly anti-immigration. Don’t give him revisionist credit for a framework that he didn’t use, and even resisted.

DIE MY LOVE...or a Portrait of a Lady on Fire? It's interesting, when it was over, and I noticed Enda Walsh's name among the credits, I was reminded of my reaction to The House, the Netflix anthology series that he spearheaded. Rural, relentless, and resolving into a kind of ambivalent dread.

I honestly have no idea what the 8 Democrats who folded believed they were getting for their party and the American people other than embarrassment.

The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

On Tuesday (Tuesday!!!) Democrats had been given clear proof that the shutdown was working, and that voters were fed up with the GOP. Now, the Democrats have given up that leverage and that narrative. A huge failure in every way. Good work idiots.

LESS. THAN. A. WEEK.

Took them less than a week to take one of the most visible public repudiations of the GOP in my lifetime and turn it into hog slop.

I’m so mad my temperature is higher than my ACA premiums.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Agree with this.

About to publish something on the airplane mess. But this too is ON THE REPUBS. It is not a reason to cave. Dems, it is a time to keep standing up.
Opening the government with no concessions from GOP merely to alleviate airline cancellations - when Congress has been dragging its feet for years on chronic FAA staffing issues - is a lame ass choice.

Also, doing it while the House refuses to work is appalling.

I listened to fifteen seconds of Greg Gutfeld on “The Interview” and was instantly bored of the contempt and immaturity. As I seem to say on repeat in a billion contexts: aren’t we over this kind of thing by now?

Predator: Badlands is a crowd-pleaser; made with the kind of cheek and pay-offs that made Marvel Movies so popular when they were new on the scene. Dan Trachtenberg is getting this entire thing right.
