I said "ENOUGH!!!"

As a pastor's kid and the youngest in my family, I learned to keep quiet and do what was expected of me. I internalised that my voice didn't matter.

1/
I finally caught what my kids have been sick with, and now I have no voice, just barely a whisper.

Some of them are still sick at home from school and daycare, with all the resulting chaos.

How do I parent when my kids can't even hear me above the din?!

To make Facebook more fun, I joined the community group for the island where I grew up.

Not only are the posts nostalgic and beautiful, but it's funny to me to recall we swam at a place actually named "Beech Beach" 😄

Love the perspective on modesty and generosity of thought which Derek expands on here.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Back in school, I wrote an essay about how two-tier healthcare would improve access for everyone.

It makes intuitive sense: create a second line and the original one gets shorter, right?

A better look at the evidence and arguments like Picard's changed my mind. 🧵
Picard’s point on AB’s new “dual practice” plan: evidence shows letting surgeons bill public & private won’t fix wait times, it likely lengthens them, drains staff from public hospitals, adds red tape, and undermines access.

A solution in search of a problem. www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/70a7e73...
Allowing doctors to practise in both public and private systems solves what exactly?
What Alberta is proposing may sound good superficially, but it makes no sense in the Canadian context

Laziness is an empty word. It actually refers to other conditions:

• fatigue
• avoidance
• fear
• misalignment of incentives
• lack of clarity
• lack of support
• neurodivergence
• depression
• burnout
• competing commitments
• insufficient recovery time

You're not lazy.
Stop it.

Tonight I finished Louise Penny's twentieth book.

I've really appreciated her novels keeping me company through these past eight months, with their rich themes, deep characters, and engaging plots.

It'll be hard to wait patiently for her to write more!
Just read my first Louise Penny murder mystery and am delighted to know there are still so many more of her novels to catch up on!

If you're a fan of cozy Canadian murder mysteries, she's written twenty so far.

Was just living the trad-wife dream, which they claim everyone else misses out on:

kneading bread with my fifth baby on my hip while barefoot in the kitchen.

I'm a working single mom.

I woke up today thinking I'd take my kids to school/daycare, attend a board meeting, see a client, and run some errands.

One-by-one my kids awoke and I realised that four out of five would be staying home, sick. And one-by-one, my plans have been demolished.

I'm looking for family-friendly audiobook recommendations!

I'll be road tripping with my younger four to my oldest's Provincial Final football game near Edmonton.

I'm hoping to find an audiobook to keep them somewhat entertained for part of the 5+ hours we're on the road!

I try to look closely at medication before purchasing to ensure the kid who needs it can take it.

But today I missed some small print on the Pepto-Bismol box.

Kids can ONLY take it for diarrhea, BUT they aren't allowed to take it if they have flu symptoms, and guess what's a flu symptom...

There is no intelligence associated with the Large Language Models (LLMs) used to drive generative AI.

A better term would be “regurgatative pattern matching”. Many of the results look “plausible” but, if examined by a subject matter expert, are often riddled with mistakes.

This is a mistake.
