As I am learning more about Memory Reconsolidation, one point is clear: You cannot get rid of the pain in a memory by giving the client in the present day what they needed in the past.
For instance, if they were neglected, giving a client a lot of attention will not negate the neglect.

When I work with my clients one of the things I find I say the most is "black and white thinking is often unhelpful. It traps us in our pain. Is there another way to look at that?"
So often we don't realize when our brain gets sidelined by B&W thinking and we need help softening the edges.

I screen shot but kept his name out of it as Im not into "shaming." This is such a great example of where black and white thinking traps the brain. It leaves no room to learn. It FEELS like it is very intellectual but it's actually thought stopping. No space for new information.
