50 years ago the Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared in a storm on Lake Superior. This is the story of her final hours, as they happened.

50 years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald began her final voyage across Lake Superior. Less than 36 hours later she vanished.

Five decades later "Why?" is still a mystery.

Starting tomorrow, I'll tell the story of her final hours on the lake - as they happened.

Dude got out of there faster than George Costanza after smelling smoke.
RFK Jr's response to someone collapsing nearby him was to haul ass out of the room as quickly as possible

10yo: Do you know any basketball players?

Wife: Sure. Magic Johnson. Michael. Larry Bird.

10yo: Larry Bird! He was famous back when basketball first started being televised!

Wow, unfollowing now, was a fan of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee.

Didn't realize she never gives up her dead when the gales of November come early.

Next weekend is the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald's final sailing.

The last few years I've tweeted along during her final voyage, exploring the storm, the Fitz's route across Lake Superior, and the fateful decisions that led to her disappearance. This year I'll be doing it on BlueSky.

I personally don't accept any familial relation until I have notorized documentation indicating their precise lineage. No, my sister won't talk to me anymore, but...is she really my sister? Who can know.

Watching A House of Dynamite (which is excellent btw) and I'm reminded that when my family moved to the middle of nowhere South Dakota I was informed by my classmates that our region was near the top of the Soviet nuclear hit list because of all the US missile silos nearby.

My most Boomer opinion: Widespread legalized sports betting, and the high profile athletes and personalities that shill for it, will be seen in the future in the same way as tobacco companies and celebrities who pushed smoking are today.
Reposting from The Ringer:

The NBA went all in on sports betting—now it’s using its credibility as collateral. Is the league gambling away its soul?

The NBA Is Gambling Away Its Soul
The league that went all in on sports betting is now in full-blown crisis mode. Has it reached the point of no return?

A story:.

On October 4, 1936, thousands of British citizens came together in London to stop a march of the British Union of Facists (also known as the Blackshirts). The confrontation became known as the Battle of Cable Street.

About 30 minutes ago I put a letter in the mailbox for my daughter who is away at college and I just subconsciously almost reached for my phone to see if she had replied. 💀
