Writing is fine. It's literally the most embarrassing thing on earth to emotionally put yourself on full display for rejection or validation, but it's good. I enjoy it. I find it therapeutic to horrify myself.

It’s Thanksgiving leftovers day #4.
There are no rules anymore and nothing matters. Turkey tacos? Great. Green bean casserole lasagna with gravy? Classic. Mashed potato milkshakes? Makes sense to me. You don’t owe anyone anything. You got this. Spread your wings and fly.

Dune has the same plot as the Westminster Dog Show: After generations of careful breeding, we have produced this perfect little freak of nature and now it has behavioral issues
Mom: Let's pick out a Christmas movie to watch on Thanksgiving. Which one do you guys want to watch?

Family (in unison): DUNE!

If you are in Columbus, Ohio, highly recommend a stop at The Book Loft at German Village. It's a labyrinth in the best way.

with Thanksgiving coming up, I would like to remind my fellow writers . . .

you wrote a book

whether you're published, on sub, querying, or just finished

YOU
WROTE
A
BOOK

think of those relatives who say "Oh yeah, I've been meaning to write a book someday--"

you actually did

take pride in that

Alt: the robot from Meet the Robinsons displaying ever more gradiose signs with "keep moving forward" on them, culminating in fireworks

Bonus question: does he look cute or crazy? The correct answer is both.

This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.

You know that feeling people talk about when they don't want a book to end? Yeah, I don't usually experience that. But somehow, about halfway through EXIT WEST by Mohsin Hamid, I found myself wishing the book would just... slow down without actually slowing down.
